Hella FF50s lens glare

I'm fully happy with my HID light setup, but I did notice the other night in the middle of nowhere that the lens of my FF50s (the oval spots) does send glare into my eyes; the lens refracts the light to the fairly thick edge of the lens. Anyone found a good way of dealing with this? I don't want to mount the lights underneath my DEs.

I know someone who chopped the top off a couple of traffic cones and heated them to fit with a heat gun. Used them as shades

No, don't want 'em on the bottom, want the DEs to fill in in front of the bike properly. Maybe I should superglue an old helmet peak to the chinbar of my lid...

Seriously though, I want a neat solution, not gluing some Bates style visor thing to the top of the light.

So what have you thought of doing so far...? The idea that you seem to be discounting is one of only two ways that I can think of to achieve the result that you appear to be looking for.

Hobo solution:
wrap the edge with black insulation tape (or perhaps self amalgamating tape for that 'professional' finish)

Non-hobo solution:
Get some different lights or mount them where they aren't in your line of sight

Sorry, I know this seems a lame thread, shouldn't do my thinking aloud...

I want to keep the flood lights as low as possible, which is where they're designed to go and I can't afford different lights, although Les's new round ones do look tasty!

I wonder if self amalgamating would be the one to use. I guess the lights don't get any hotter than a water hose wrapped in the stuff.

Well as it happens, I could do with some. I'm going to have a bash at the Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000 on Sunday (all being well) and will need those lights.

do you have engine bars?

Put the fogs down low on the engine bars (supposed to be as low as possible anyway) and the FF50's slung underneath the light bar.

No bars. Am hoping to get a set of Steptoe's excellent alloy head protectors at some stage. Reckon Matt's kind offer of some self amalgamating tape will do the trick.

I fitted some FF50's to my GS just after I bought the bike in 03 and realised just how poor the lights were compared to my previous bikes.
Glare is an issue but I just wrapped PVC tape around the edge and it is still there 6-years later.
