Hella Lights, Migsel Light Bar and Motoswitch Kit.

Rob Farmer said:
Guys I'm really sorry about this but I'm pulling the plug on the Lighting package. From my point of view it's far too much work on top of my regular job, if most of the suppliers were more reliable, price wise as well as service wise, then it may have been different. I'm not including Migsel or my Hella supplier in that comment by the way.

I've toted up all of the bills for producing the last batch and it actually cost me money to sell the lighting kits which is not a happy situation.

I'm going to carry on producing the Motoswitch and Power cables and will add the wiring harness and a few other items to my list. A big thanks to the guys who bought the kits from me and it was great to meet the ones who came round.

Thanks

Rob

I am sorry to read this but I can fully understand your reasons and I hope that other people stop and think about why you have decided not to continue.
The concept of having a "one stop shop" for the lighting package is indeed an excellant one, and as you know one that I looked into as well, but trying to control so many suppliers is a nightmare!
It only takes one supplier to either let you down or chuck a price increase at you and it all goes to pot.
As you said on the phone its not about money its about the time and the hassle that it takes to organize it all to make up the package

Still the good news for WBM owners is that they can still get your spendid and superb moto switch.

Still at least you had a go and again sorry that it did'nt work out.

Regards,

Alan

Alan,

Thanks for the comments.

I'm sure it will actually work out better for the the GS riders since there will be a bigger selection of lamps from you, Migsel lightbar can be ordered directly from him and I will still have the other components to tie the lot together if they are wanted.

I've had a website sitting around doing nothing for quite a while, I'll get that up and running and put the install instructions on there in case anybody wants them.

OK Rob,

I think you're right. The concept could work but it will be time (and money) consuming. Unless you really want to go all the way and get a real "lights store" rolling, it's probably a better option to leave the lights shopping to the GS'ers.

There is such a vast range of lights available, that it's hard to limit the choice to a few types and keep stock of those. What to do then if they prefer that other type, right? Keeping stock of any items always envolves a certain risk and money tied up in your garage.
:beerjug: Thanks for the initiative and the rather short but pleasant co-operation. I'm sorry it didn't work out better for you.

If you're looking for a place to put the install instructions, I can always put them on my website if you like. They can have a good home there, available for download for anybody interested.

Cheers,
Michel

Hi Rob,

I've just picked up on this thread. Initially I thought "what a bloody good idea" and really wish this whole package was available when I bought my switch from you. It saves loads of wiring (which I got wrong several times) and generally eases the load of the electronically ignorant (most of us I guess). Then I saw you were pulling it and I thought "nooooooooo!!!".

I really really think you should continue with the package.

I went through a while when I was selling Tobinators at a loss (mainly due to the weak US$) and wondered why I was doing it. However, GS accessories are very "price elastic". If the thing works, and works well, people will pay the money. I bumped the price up to keep a margin and orders kept coming in.

For a complete package like the one you are offering, I'd have paid you £150.

You underestimate the hassle that someone has to go through to get the light bar, get the lights, get the switch, wire the whole lot up. Everything in one package is soooooo much easier.

So, slap some margin on the price and get on with it.

If you want to conquer the USA market, then I'll help. They'll lap it up. I've just done a mini-reseller deal with www.adventurersworkshop.com - a fellow GS owner and Tobinator customer. I'll do the intro if you like. PM me.

Cheers mate.

Lighting

Rob,
Great initiative. The massive response shows improved lighting is something many need. Sorry to see that you've had to discontinue the effort. Being somewhat of a newbie tinkering with something more complex than cross bikes (really old ones), I'm wary of the electrical bit. Being new to this forum as well, I'll run the risk of asking som dumba.s questions.

From where can I order the bits and pieces you included in your kit?
Is it possible to get hold of the instructions you compiled for mounting the kit? I'm assuming that if I can get it wrong I will so instructions are always good.

Any efforts (time taken, postage, handling, etc) from you will ofcourse be reimbursed.

Pls post a reply and I'll email you.

Cheers/J. Stenvall

I've had a lot of support over the lighting kit. I've decided to start selling it again but it will be slightly more expensive. I will post some more information over the next few days giving the new price and expected dates for availability.

Great,
I'm definitely gonna get one if and when given the opportunity.

I certainly hope Rob is still alive, as I sent him a box of light bars last Friday :D

So I suppose he'll be back to answer your enquiries soon.
