Hi all

Wanted to introduce my self, I have been lurking around here for a few months now looking at the 800.

I have decided to press the button and go for a f800gs. I am looking for a White model with ABS, and fully loaded, exept panniers. So if any body knows one going? Especially in Aberdeen area....

Will be selling my daytona 650, to make room in garage as have a few other toys. Ducati 888 sp5, BMW r1100s & moto guzzi t3 Cali.

Fancied the 800 after having a lone bike during a service on the r1100, have subsequently tried the trumpet 800, but just pereferd the looks of the BMW, but thought the trumpet a cracking bike.

So thank to all who wright, it is us full listening to other people experience.

I will put a wanted ad in the correct section, but just wanted to say hello first

Thanks for that, did look at it but it's non ABS.

I know some people dont like ABS, and have followed various arguments:blagblah, and I think I'd rather have the system. I tend to keep bike for a long wile so would rather get the spec I wanted.

Cheers

Welcome to forums :)

I hope to put my own mud on it

Are you intending to do much off road?

If so i would highly recommend NOT going for an ABS version. Unfortunately BMW made its so that the ABS cannot be permanently turn off. This means every time you stop and turn off the ignition it resets and turns the ABS back on... You then discover this when heading down a narly slope with no brakes :(

Personally if i have the option i wouldnt go for ABS and we dont do much off road on them anymore (cheated and bought DR350s for that :)).

Good luck with the bike hunt either way:)

In reality feel I'll do 95% on road with may be a little fire tracks

If was going to do more off roading I would do as you and by a smaller lighter bike. And one that I can drop and not start crying over scratches and bent metal

I appreciate your views it finding a compromise that suits where I think I'll be riding

Cheers

...every time you stop and turn off the ignition it resets and turns the ABS back on...

One of the nice things about the F650/800GS is that the CanBUS electrics are smart enough to turn off the headlights a second or two after the engine stops running, so there's not the need (as there is on, say, the R1200GS) to switch off the ignition every time you stop when offroad to prevent the battery being flattened.

The other thing you have to ask yourself is why, when you've bought ABS to prevent the front wheel locking on tarmac, would you switch ABS off the moment you go offroad when the chances of locking the wheel are so much higher?

I would rather ride well within the restrictions of the track with ABS on, knowing I won't lock up the front.

Check eBay my friend has put a 2009 800gs with just over 2000milles all the factory options and loads of TT goodies bike is in Ripon or phone me 07967 563629
