Hi Everybody,

I quickly introduce myself as this is my first post.

My name is Gabriele, I'm 32 and I live in London. I'm a proud owner of a 1150GA Adventure final edition (m.y. 2005).

Since the bike has more than 60k miles on the clock I'm planning to upgrade the suspensions getting a new kit.

I don't want to spend almost £ 1,500 on Ohlins products, also because in terms of off-road riding I don't do more than green laning. I do go two up with luggage though.

Some people suggested me to save money and only get the original shocks services adding the spring kit from Hyperpro. Although I have some doubts about it.

I am currently looking at two manufacturers which seem to have very good products at a fair price. Those are Nitron and TFX.

I've seen on this forum that some people installed Nitron shocks and they are pretty happy with those. I was wondering whether anyone here can advise on TFX kit.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Gab

That still comes to 1350 pounds and I can't see a mention of a choice of springs. I bought a rear Ohlins for my 1150 from Harris in Hertford, before it was sent they asked about loadings and riding styles. They supplied the shock with n appropriate spring fitted. Now that was a while ago before Ohlins got so expensive but I still think a bespoke service is worth a bit extra

Hello,

Thanks for your replies.

At the moment I'm thinking to go for a full kit and tho choice could be Ohlins, Nitron or TFX.

Does anyone know the pros and cons of those?

I'm not convinced about Wilbers in terms of after purchasing service. I sent them an email last week in order to get some info and they haven't got back to me yet.

What is the best choice in terms of value for money? I'm not planning to do any tough terrain off-road and I'll riding either on solo or two up plus luggage.

Thanks for the link to Revs Racing website Lord Snooty. I've just sent them an email.

What do you guys think would be the best product in terms of value for money?

I can see that Wilbers and TFX are much cheaper than Ohlins and Nitron. I guess it is all about the materials used to build them right?

Another recommendation for Revs, albeit they are some distance from you. I've been in there a few times and they very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Nick is ordering in some Wilbers for me, around a three weeks turnaround at the moment.

I've just contacted them and they forwarded my request to Bits4motorbike, who sent me a quote for the Wilbers kit - no HPA at the rear though so I got them to send me a new quote.

Why did you end up buying Wilbers?

Does anyone know which are the main differences between Wilbers and Ohlins / Nitron? I can see that in terms of price there is a quite big difference so there must be a reason for that?!

in my limited experience of both, i'd say that ohlins are just a bit more refined and plusher than wilbers.

they are a flippin' sight more expensive though.

Yes they are. I've just got a quote and I could get a kit of Wilbers (630 front and 640 rear plus HPA) for £ 1.100 (including installation).

When I got a quote for the Ohlins it was £ 1.330 only to get them delivered. Don't know yet about Nitron.

It looks like for the use I do of the bike Wilbers might be the best value for money option.

....and it would seem, don't last very long before needing a 'service'.

Which.. in my book is piss poor value for money..

Depends how you look at it?

To be fair, the shaft seal on the front starting leaking and it could have been some road debris or a dried on fly that affected that seal, i'll never know

The rear is ok, but it is extremely crucial to have the right springs for the intended use, a thing that many owners overlook at their peril

My Wilbers, on my other GSA have done 30k also, perhaps they'll need a rebuild this year

Time will tell:P

30,000 miles in ten years is nothing. I do almost 10k a year

So do you guys reckon Wilbers is a good option to go for?

Just fitted a pair of Nitron NTR's to a '55 plate GS12 and I am very pleased, I am also very pleased with Nitron's telephone and postage service.
