Top two brands are ContourHD or GoPro.
The new ContourGPS does everything from 1080p footage & add's a timelapse modes plus you can add GPS data onto videos or networking sites.
Ow it has bluetooth so you can adjust it on the fly & even see what you are filming at that time.

I bought a GoPro HD Hero Motorsports off eBay for £259 (UK Seller) a few weeks ago, it arrived within a day.
I also bought a 32GB SDHC card for £30 and the mountain bike mount for £19 so I can fit it to the bike when touring. It can record 5 hours of HD video on the card.
It's fully waterproof and is an amazing little piece of kit. Well recommended.
Check out the GoPro website or look on Youtube for GoPro clips and see how good the images really are.

The main things that made the Contour more appealing to me are:
Easier to stop/start filming
Lasers to check alignment so you can confirm what you are filming
The soon to be released mobile phone app so that you can see what you are filming and ability to configure the camera
Most importantly: the ability to mount it on google straps meaning you can use it for other sports (eg: skiing) and not be dependent on having a fixing point on your lid
