helmet decision

honestly what would you choose?

-shark rsr2 carbon (price ~380€)

-uvex onyx carbon (price~400€)

-shoei qwest/xr1100 (price ~ 340/400€)

-bell m4r carbon (price ~400€)


motorcycle: bmw f800gs

use: 50% travel (routes about 200km long) - 50% city

Any of the above, but the most important thing is ----

That the helmet fits correctly and is comfortable. We all have different shaped heads, and some helmets fit one shape better than others.

I have a Shoei XR1100, which is really comfortable, but my wife tried one on she found pressure points in some places. Try on as many helmets as you can, it will pay in the long run.

I've got ...

... the Bell M4R Carbon and think it's got the best visor I've ever used. I think it must be cast 'in the round' as there is no distortion at all, and it's about 3mm thick ! Only negatives is the vents are hard to operate with a gloved hand, and the liner looked 'tired' fairly quickly; other than that I think it's the Mutz-Nutz

i went through the same process. What I would stress is that you buy online after fitting, becuase if you are not satisfied, within 14 days you have aright to an exchange. If you buy instore, they will not allow an exchange.
I bought instore and felt a massive comfort difference between sjhoie and Arai. Massive. I bought an Arai chaser and actually wish i had gone for the £allegedly" quieter shoei qwest. Even though the arai was a smoother fit, the noise it makes is quite considerable. Now if you buy online, you could always test the helmet.......then return it..

oo thats interesting - I always viewed buying online as a no-no, because you couldn't try it on.

Honestly, I'd buy whichever fitted the best.

I have the XR1100 as it is a great fit (nice and snug). I tried a few Arais and none of them fitted right, same with other brands.

with the shoei you can fit different size pads for the inside to get a perfectly comfy fit.goes up in 1/2 sizes.

I've just bought a Shoei XR1100 and although I've only used it a couple of times I am really pleased with it. It's really comfortable, fairly quiet and the half tinted visor I got f.o.c. is almost as good as the drop down tinted visor in the Schuberth S1 I've had for quite a few years.
I've also had Arai helmets and the build quality seems to be at least as good. The Shoei visor can also be changed in seconds, unlike Arais (at least for me!)
