We're here in Norway and one of our group has been caught out by rain and roadworks and has massively scratched her Schuberth C2 helmet visor today. So much so it is basically unusable and her 650GS does not have enough of a screen to ride with it open.

So ...... Who can help us get a new visor in Kristiansund tomorrow Friday 4th June or Saturday 5th. We've just ridden 3,000 miles in about 10 days and would rather not have to ride back to Trondheim.

Our plans are taking us south through Molde and Geiranger.

We have whisky to reward our saviour.

Could you not source a pair of goggles or even safety glasses, for her locally, until you can get a visor? I can check if Forth Gear have a visor in stock and get it shipped to you, if you're absolutely stuck.

You might try to PM Liv of this parish who is resident in Norway. Perhaps someone has a phone number for her?

Failing that a new helmet purchased locally? Good doesn't have to be expensive, except perhaps in Norway :-(

The goggles option has been considered and is a not so last resort. Liv is a. an absolute star and b. working like a dervish to help us out.

Packer,
When I saw your name pop up I thought "fuck, we live 2 miles from each other and you're here in Norway as well. Bloody Stalker!"

i've messaged some Scandinavian friends - but dont hold your breath. :nenau
will do me best. :thumb2

You could call the Schuberth importer in Norway who are:

SPS Spare Parts Service AS
Industriveien 27A
NO - 2020 Skedsmokorset
Tel +47 64 83 75 00

They are based in Oslo but they will tell you the nearest town where they sell them or post one on to your next destination.

Can I suggest you take extra time out in Geiranger as it is breathtaking there. You could also visit Aalesund which is a great Nowegian town and have it posted on to there. I'm sure you can collect it at rail stations and post offices in Norway.

Good luck

cheers folks for anything you can come up with.

we hit quite a few stretches of roadworks with the surface stripped right back to the mud in places and combine this with the spells of rain we had left all three of us filthy, and unfortunately Karen had wiped her glove strip across her visor a few times thinking it was wet enough to clear ok - but she's badly scored the visor over the majority of her field of vision.

we'll call the shop in Alesund in the morning - we're planning riding the Atlantic Road on Saturday so may be able to arrange something with them IF they have a visor. Andy, we'll try that if we have no luck with the shop. :thumb

Funnily enough I was thinking about what I would do if my helmet was nicked during a trip abroad on my recent trip - it's funny the things that go through your head on a long run. Anyway, my initial thoughts:
  • There must be loads of youngsters on mopeds / scooters around Kristiansund. Where do they get helmets? Why not just strap the Schubert to the bike, use a cheaper replacement (possibly even 2nd hand) to get you out of a pickle and just sort out the replacement visor when you get home? Admittedly not cheap, but even if you get a replacement visor it will take a day or so to get it to you, so bear in mind the cost of a hotel / B&B, food etc while you have to wait for it.
  • Contact the local Police? Even if they don't know where to get a replacement helmet, you never know, they may have a surplus helmet floating around somewhere. I've seen scratched / imperfect helmets in Police storage and I'm pretty sure that if they were approached politely, they may lend one to a fellow visiting biker.
  • Grab a friendly biker, to see if they know of anyone who has a spare helmet they could lend you temporarily. The chances of you finding one who has a spare Schubert visor is slim, but I know I've got a couple of old complete helmets lying around, which I would lend to someone in need. They may need a clean, and they probably don't smell too good, but lets face it, it's better than what she's got at the moment. :D

I have seached ''for sale'' here, but no luck: http://www.finn.no/finn/torget/tilsalgs/resultat?areaId=20015&CATEGORY/SUBCATEGORY=20

...if I could think of a friend in that area, who have Schubert helmet... -A used one would help, if it is ok.

The best tip I PM'ed to the group is Elvsaas in Molde:

-Let's hope the best!

:) Liv.

Again, Liv is an absolute star and our plans include a stop over near Oslo the night before we leave as there's a 1915 car like the one I'm restoring about 60km away.

We've done the 'adventure' bit with about 3,000miles in 10 days and we're beyond knackered. The plan now is to stop 2 nights - potter around, then move one 200km MAX then stop 2 nights again. Geiranger has probably 4 nights worth of visiting within reach so a nice hytte and an extended stay is on the cards.

We have 12 days left so ......

Again, cheers for the help. Last night we were in panic mode with a side order of knacker but the weather is dry but overcast today so we should be okay for a quiet potter into Kristiansund from Byskogen.

Funniest thing - better internet connection and mobile reception everywhere than I get at home 3 miles south of Glasgow!

SUCCESS!!!

Many :bow to Liv who found us the only BMW/Harley dealer in the world with only 1 visor left!

It has been bought and we will either get there tomorrow or Monday.

Thanks again everyone.
