Helmet lock

BMW could have added the same on the TC/WC GSA for a tenner a bike

Shame on BMW's penny pinching

Not missed, not needed, as said there are more versatile options available for pennies, I don't recall ever using the helmet lock when I had an 1150 for nearly 4 years.

You can't beat the convenience of the 1150 GS with the helmet lock & proper toolkit & tyre plugger kit under the pillion seat

I've emailed BMW's design team tonight about the lack of a helmet lock, and the impact it will have on future sales!:P

As for the tyre plugger kit and proper toolkit, I have both under the pillion seat of my GSA.;)

FFS Peter, I only use the bike one, what I was intimating was that you could use a cycle lock if you are as paranoid about cycle locks, as you seem to be:D

One does wonder why you get so wound up over not much sometimes - chill man :)

Exactly not needed so BMW got rid of it - any user with a little gumption can do a better job for bugger all money, so it was entirely logical to drop it.

No, I use mine daily for the helmet and gloves!

Jim

Am I the only rider who uses a topbox for storing helmet? Dry and relatively secure. Also good for gloves, specs, shopping, sandwiches....

Not to mention hanging out in the Wethead section when he obviously has no interest in one!:nenau

Well numb nuts - I think you'll find JBs post more in line with the original OPs question than yours.

I think it's clear thatt if the OP had on his WC a helmet lock like an 11XX he'd be happy

...and why do we hang out in here, well it's to aggrivate those who through their milder, fashion over function desires that have cost us such things:D

Are you all saying it's not wise to leave your lid on top of your mirror then?

Bloke in our group has been doing exactly that for years and has never had any problems! Leaves it just sitting there wherever we go in the UK or abroad.

Personally I wouldn't be comfortable doing that but he's not in the least bit worried!

Not a toolkit from BMW, I'll wonder

BMW just supply screwdriver and a couple of torx keys, which will be as much use as a chocolate teapot

Yep, the BMW toolkit from my twin cam, along with the "toolkit" that came with the LC.:D

I still haven't ever had to use ANY of the tools on any of my bikes, so the less, the better, I guess.;)

I do that!:D

Helmet on mirror stalk

Generally I do too:D

I was just pointing out the usefulness of the Helmet lock, on the 1150GS, that was all :augie

Then people got all shouty, as to why the WC didn't need one and BMW's deletion of this feature (despite their sales blurb, to the contary) was justified, because it was unnecessary:P

Good fishing:clap

Good design and successful product is all about keeping the vast majority of ones customers happy - wasting money on features that hardly anyone wants is plain daft. Those few who whinge about the loss of a pointless feature can easily add their own and their expense rather than everyone else's.

You seem like a happy fellow!

The reply of a fair weather rider:D

When you've got places to go and things to do the GSA, poor excuse of a helmet lock, is a complete faff...

And inorder to lift the front seat you first have to take off the rear seat and put it somewhere - it's a faff unless you don't mind faffing around hoping someone will engage you in conversation about your bike:augie

Yup agreed. A right faff. With the Hexhead, getting the seat back on is hit and miss as mechanism is shyte.

Much improved mechanism on the LC though, but alas no helmet hook I gather. I leave my helmet on RH mirror secured by combination cable lock through handlebars which is much more convenient for me than messing with any seat.

Helmet in topbox for me. Keeps it dry.

I've never used a helmet lock in over 20 years of biking. I'm quite happy carrying my lid around with me.

I bought a 3 number combination lock from the Pound Shop. Combination is stamped on an aluminium plate that I have attached to my key ring. Does the job for me.

yep similar here ,i pop my lid into a plain cheap helmet cover so its not advertising its an expensive Arai, then lock it with a Push bike lock to the fame of the bike . jobs a good un

the way that the helmet locks under the seat used to work always had your lid opening pointing to the sky , so when it rained , the inside of the helmet got soaked ,not a nice feeling putting that on your head
