Hi, do we still need helmet reflectors for France? My old helmets have them but I've read that it is no longer enforced, like a lot of French laws it seems (Breathalysers for example)

If we do, anyone know who sells them? Nothing on Ebay

Thanks

...Then when you get a fine on *THIS* occasion, you can reference this forum......:augie

You can always wear your tin foil hat. Have u ever seen anyone with theses stickers or do u know anyone that has been fined.

Carlos I went to France this year without them and lived. I do have a set of stickers you can have if you really want foc?

The law is not clear. They cannot/won't enforce this to foreign riders.

I read up on this a few years ago now and it seems that all helmets sold in France have to come with the stickers in the box and they are supposed to be applied and used by French law but digging deeper int this it seems the French with their typical attitude dont bother and in all the years that this has been a law no one has actually been prosecuted for failing to have them

It also seems that the French have laws that say you must but then have no powers to enable them to enforce - Brilliant

The same applies to breathalysers I think a law that says you must have 2 ( which in reality means 3) but no power to prosecute for not having them

I got pulled a couple of months back for missing a stop line, they didn’t check for helmet stickers, CE rated gloves, yellow vest, breathalyzer or anything else, just the address to send the fine :nod

The breathalyzer is still law but there’s no penalty, all they can do is tell you that you must have two, and you say OK

They will however pull you if you’re not wearing any gloves, but I’d be surprised if that’s going to be a problem for any British biker

The British discover European’s attitude to stupid laws :)

If it was over here, they would have had a specific variation of Council parking wardens to check the stickers.

Don't forget the left-handed corkscrew. Its obligatory.
And your great grandads call-up papers ..... in triplicate.

As with many local laws (if indeed they are even laws at all, which might or might not apply to visitors) you’d have to have committed a pretty serious offence to have the local plod taking an intimate interest in, say, your gloves. If they are, then I’d suggest you might well be advised to seek out the services of a local lawyer, as you’ll be well beyond the scope of UKGSer’s protection and expertise, as extensive as that might be.

I was amazed to find some years ago that the black lettering on my helmet was reflective.
Use a torch, you might find your helmet has reflective stickers already.
Reflective is not necessarily fluorescent.
