Helmet resizing

Tried an Arai Tour X3 on over the weekend and whilst it was comfortable I couldn't decide whether to go for the medium or the large. I see on evilpay that you can get helmet liners in different thickness's. Does anyone have experience of altering their crash helmet to fit nicely?
