I've got one Pipehose, firstly try one on before you buy they don't suite everyone, I'm not convinced my own is great fit, I've got a bit of a nose on me and it comes very close to touching the visor. When the sun shines I ride open face with a tinted visor and its great, but its not the best open face and its not the best full face but its a good compremise ands gives you a choice on the move.

couple of friends have them and swear by them .. couple of others can't get them on .. or find them too circular!!

i tried one but it didn't feel great ..

shame as i liked the look of it.

Tried one, but it was the most uncomfortable lid I've ever had on the old bonce. You'd really need to try before you buy. Crossans do them, at least that was where I tried the Roof on.




So I'll stay with Arai seeing as I have an Arai shaped head.

I have always worn Arai but recently decided that I wanted to try a flip front helmet.

Like Smeggy I tried the Roof at Crossans but didn't like it. When I closed down the front of the lid it was much to close to my chin.

I tried a Caberg but it didn't suit my head shape and Shoei didn't fare much better.

I did try a Nolan in Crossans and was quite impressed. It had a little tinted visor like my wifes Caberg but it was fitted on the outside on the Nolan which I didn't really like. Fine helmet though.

In the end I bought a system 5 from Hursts. I have worn it just 4 or 5 times in the few weeks I have had it, but so far I am pretty happy with it.

Do try the Roof for size etc Pipehose but don't expect too much, although you may just like it.

I had one a few years ago and it was ok for short trips in the summer, bought a new one after that and it's bloody awfull, lining from chin piece has fallen out, it leeks in the rain, and the popper studs don't line up properly.
Got a schubeth now and well happy, if its hot i take the clear visor off and use the flip down tinted, and the visors got a setting that pops forward a little bit to stop it steaming up at low speeds. Would'nt touch another Roof after this.

..is nearly a brilliant lid.

~suprisingly good peripheral vision.

~the only flip front you can wear "open" at higher speeds without it trying to rip yer head off.

~nice close fit - pushes back into your face rather than trying to lift upwards at high speeds.

~can be "stripped" for use as an open face without looking daft.

but;

~the visor leaks - you get rain running down the inside

~hard to properly close the lid/visor. as already mentioned - the press studs wont line up properly.

~and unless yer heads the right shape to start with....it just dont fit

tried one - thought it would be ideal when out doing rider training.
gave up and flogged it.

i reckon the next model will be brilliant....coz the makers will have sorted all the problems out

had one the clips for the chin pice broke at 13 months old and i was told that i would have to pay £60 for a new chin pice .
in damp conditions they are awful they steam up like a barstuard
i tried every thing all the anti fog solutons because of the twin curves on the visor you carn't use a fog city
and the seatbelt style fasening use to come lose.
on the plus side my repair to the chin locking using a lenth of Kevlar and pressstud worked better than the proper one in north wales as it didnot come unfasened in the accidentlike the origonal one did and it as it saved my bonce
i cant complain
ps you may find it dificult to get hold of any spaires for them as the factory burnt down a few weeks ago
so no more roof boxers

now thats just taking the pith! a certain dealer here in Dublin 2 said the same to me.

Don't do it...

It's just an open face with a bit of plastic at the front, Mrs PCH insisted on one about 5 years ago, brought it against my better judgement...

The seals are iffy, which causes the visor to scratch and leak, the poppers that fasten the chin down would get ripped off in 10th of a sec if they hit the tarmac.

Granted it looks good - but wouldn't want to ride one in a storm or out of town.

Lids cost for a reason... I'm as tight as the next man, but it's Arai Corsairs for me - £500 vs my bonce... I'll spend the thick wedge every time.

I`ve got two....an original 1999 model and a year 2001 model.

Each year has seen a design alteration.

The latest ones are vastly better than the earlier ones...especially regarding chin clearance.

They only seem to comfortably fit the ...ahem...more voluminous cranium.

I find them to be fairly quiet.

The visors mist up like a bastard if they`re not treated.

Rainwater runs down the inside and can pool in the chin section.

They`re also uncomfortably hot in the summer... there`s no venting for the skull....saying that,I usually wear a fully vented motocross helmet,so I miss the venting when I wear the Roof helmets.

Also,the lining isn`t removeable for easy washing.

The newest ones cannot technically be legally worn with the front section pivoted open whilst riding,due to being tested as a full face rather than an open face with a cosmetic separate chin guard.

Also,if you do buy one,beware that the visors are different shapes from model to model and they`re not all interchangeable.
