I have just this morning purchased the SRC BT for my Schuberth C3. It took about 10 minutes to fit and I have been playing around with it this afternoon. No full test yet. But it looks and feels ok, so far.

The important bit is the price I got it for. As a previous customer of Helmetcity (SChuberth C3 and TCX infinity boots, they are also only 15 minutes from home so I bought in person) they did it for £250 :thumb2

I thought some others may have dealt with them before and might like to give them a call if you were looking at this kit to see if you could get this deal :)

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you've completed your 'full test' as I'm considering buying this too.

From memory SRC BT = Schuberth Rider Communications BlueTooth - looks like a very neat system

Yes thats it. It is a tidy solution, although bloody expensive in comparison to some. Will post a review asap.

Cheers. I've spent millions for a "wireless" Autocom which is utter sh*te, thinking of burning it and getting something different.

Keep us posted, ta!

I too bought the C3 and SRC from Helmet City last week, and also received the £50 discount for the SRC due to purchasing together.

I'm still testing and had high expectations (for the price), but first impressions on the SRC are that the radio reception is poor and constantly crackling, at least here in London, to the point I'm about to stop tuning in! The other functions all work very well as per the manual. The buttons take some getting use to and are a little difficult to feel and locate under gloves, particularly the volume and tuning buttons which are nearly at the back of your head way behind your left ear - you got to stretch your arm to locate and press them, though I'm not sure how else you could make this better on a collar system.

I also bought a seperate sony TMR-BT10 bluetooth adapter pluged into my speed camera detector, Novus Rider - while this works when paired, you cannot listen to another input (radio) and have the novus alerts interrupt the radio, so I am still wearing the earpiece for the Novus on top of the SRC built in speakers. I have asked Schuberth to confirm if this is possible now or with a future download update.

Also, just so you all know, the schuberth SRC is made by Cardo who make the new Rider G4. The two systems are almost identical (you can download the manuals from eachs respective website and they are nearly identical verbatim). The difference, apart from the collar fitting the schuberth, is the G4 can pair 4 riders in intercom mode versus 3 on the SRC. Also, the G4 has a pop-up antenna which extends the intercom range to 1 mile, while the schuberth can only manage 300m. The G4 is £240 and SRC is £299, though if bought with the helmet at Helmetcity they will discount £50, and give you a free T shirt, visor waist bag, cleaner and cloth, but best of all a free luxary helmet bag - its really good!.

Martin at Helmet City was really helpfull and even gave me a free cargo net and helped me fix all the goodies to my bike, and protected with loads of bubble wrap - top service, and the shop is worth a visit.

As far as the helmet, well its really surprising how much noise it actually filters out while still being able to hear the outside. The visor works really well and stops at all the notches without falling down when going over a bump (aparently a problem with the original C3). When down in the 'city' position nearly all noise damping ocurs, and if you push all the way to close the tiny gap from city position it further eliminates noise. Its also important to ensure the chin collar is properly in place for the noise surpression to work really well.

Ventillation through the top intake has 3 settings and you can really feel the air flowing when fully open - likewise with the mouth air inlet (2 positions). and when open no fogging ocurs even at traffic lights, thanks to the pin lock double visor system. My glasses do however steam up a little so i've just ordered some Clarity Defog It. The internal sun visor is a godsend meaning I dont have to carry my sunglasses in addition to my normal glasses to avoid the morning glare - this stays in whatever position you set it at (another issue with the original C3) - the only issue here is with the outer visor down along with the inner sun visor down, air circulates with more difficulty and so my glasses fog up even easier (hope the Fog It comes soon!).

All in all, the quality is right on with everything fitting tightly and with no surplus movement - it feels really solid. The cheek, chin and head linings come out to let you wash them.

I too was originally hoping someone would review the BMW system 6 against the C3, and found only one person on a spanish forum who basically thought the BMW was a slightly different and lesser C3. It dosnt make sense to me how BMW could have the same helmet and charge £100 less and still make a profit - They must have cut corners to be able to achieve this saving, so I went with the C3. Also, it appears the SRC collar will not fit the bmw lid, and at the BMW dealer 2 weeks ago the service guy said they had received specific bulletins confirming the collar will not fit - it also explains why they are pushing their own bluetooth system which has much less functionality than the SRC or G4.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the fantastic review Robee! This really helps my decision as I want reliable radio. As such, I might return to the original option I was considering, which was using a Pure Highway DAB radio with separate antenna (have read very good reviews) with an Autocom kit. It means more wires, but will at least be reliable and give quality audio and allow me to use the in-ear monitors I'm after.

Thanks again!
Steve

Ps. I'll also be buying a C3 from Helmet City. I've stopped by there a couple of times now and have always found them incredibly helpful - recommended!

That's a great first review robbee.

Can you let us know the following please?

Do you were earplugs?
How loud are the speakers / how clear is the sound?
Have you done any motorway tests yet?

cheers

Ash

Hi Ash,

I dont wear ear plugs as I like to hear some of the road, and the C3 does a really good job at cutting out noise while letting you still hear enough. I hav'nt tried it on the mortorway yet, but it sure is miles better than my previous BMW system 4 at keeping noise and whisttles out.

The speakers are also much better than I was expecting, and the quality of the sound is rich - I was expecting a tinny kind of sound but they feel as if they are much bigger speakers. Ive not experienced the auto volume as Ive not tried it on the motorway - i.e. the volume increases as it senses an increase in backgrond noise through the microphone.

I'd like to know if anyone else with the SRC is experiencing radio interference issues. Is this normal? I thought the RDS function was meant to sustain a clear reception by adjusting the tuning on the fly. I can hear no difference between having the RDS swithced on or off. I am also getting a constant ticking noise which is there nearly at all frequncies except the rare occasion when there is a strong clear signal, then this goes away until interfernce goes away. Ive tried swithing off everything and its still there - its as if the unit itself is producing the ticks as it struggles to stay tuned.

I really wanted a good radion solution, but this just isnt it. I'm going to ask Helmet City if any other customers have had any issues, as I might have a duff one. Can anyone else here who has the SRC share their experience?

Thanks

robbee

I have been playing with mine over this week. All off bike atm. I am hoping to get out and about Sunday.

1) The pairing of BT devices is fairly straight forward. I have done both phone and GPS zumo 550.

2) The buttons seem to be nicely sized for my 3xl hands. Just getting used to the order and positions, then the functions of each will be fun.

3) The collar is a little thicker than the original one. I am finding the rear section a little wider so it pushes the helmet backwards, I am hoping there will be a small amount of break in there so I can get back to the same comfort level as before the swap over.

4) The speakers sound nice, although I have not quite found the hot spot for them yet.

5) The mike boom gets caught by the chin curtain, I am not sure why, I need to find the best position for it.

6) The radio is ok, not OK. I have many stations to choose from in London. But many are not at there best with this set atm. I will be fully testing this on the ride.

My main music source will be an ipod with an rf remote. But I will not be using the usb connection to route the audio to the headset. Instead I will be using some UE monitors. The main reason is that I use them as ear plugs when not listening to music.

More to come.

I went to Helmet City this afternoon and bought a C3 with SRC. £400 for the lid and £250 for the SRC.

I'm charging my helmet at the moment :toungincheek but will try to get out and about with it tomorrow and will post a short review.

Robee,

Did you get a response from Helmet City on any other having prms with the SRC FM radio?
Mine is absolutely dreadful for background interference and I only get 2 stations on it!
Do they think that a firmaware upgrade fixes it (currently on version 1.56 according to the Schuberth website)

Duncan.
