Helmets - best anti-mist? Not System 5 :D

For fog free glasses try having a read here:

Also (not sure if the S5 is the same) but the 'double glazed' visor for the S.4 appears to be a pinlock design - it can be eased out of the visor for cleaning (and presumably) cheaper replacement...not that I've needed to yet.

The combination of the S.4 double glazing and the antifog treatment means I can leave the visor down for the whole journey to work no matter whether its freezing or raining...

Point to note: the fog treatment takes a bit of time to get right (typically needs less than you think) and can leave a slight residue (but better than fogged lenses!)

Those whom wear perscription glasses often find the problem lies there. Any good advice from those optically challenged ??

a System 5 with the double visor and have no problems with it misting....

I've got this as well, rode through last winter without a problem. ... and I wear prescription glasses.

I have a Nolan n-com thingy bob and if it wasn't for the flip front or Pinlock system, It'd be shite. However, it does have a pinlock and a flip front and never mists. Even with my rancid sweaty lump of a face, breathing in it like I've just done a 25 mile run, it will not mist. Tried fog city in an Arai before and it was Ok, but the Pinlock system is 100%.
Just my view, not really worth shite, but I had nowt better to do. :thumb

Bought a new Simpson visor recently & the inner side has a hard gel like coating. I would summise it's a fog retardant but haven't tried it out as yet.... :nenau

Ive been using a Scuberth S1 for the past few months, which has a factory coating on the inner face of the visor.

This has worked quite well in the damp/wet conditions, but the coating is starting to flake and peel off, which is a bit disappointing for a helmet less then a year old.

I believe that it is possible to get some type of "double glazed" visor for it, but dont know how good or bad it is.

To my knowledge the "Fog City" type insert won't fit the S1.

Wish I had kept the receipt now. :mmmm

Hmm, I've been told from various people that the double visor isnt 'that' much better. Can you expand on this Mick? What kind of riding do you do? Inner city? Autumn/Winter? The few people I've spoke to (including my tame BMW parts person ;)) say it's OK on faster roads but still mists up due to the crap design of the helmet vents. How much was it anyway as I never asked?
My bike is my only form of transport, I use it every day in all weathers, as an idea the bike I have at the moment I have had for just over 2 years the speedo was replaced with an MPH clock when I purchased it and it now reads 55,600 miles. Hope that helps.... :D cost if I remember rightly about £50-60. With my single layer visor it mists up when in heavy rain, when out this morning with the double visor, it rained and I mean rained like there was no tomorrow and it was fine, no misting. IMHO it's fine I always ride with top and rear vents open. It has not misted at all whilst I have used it.

PS. Have been using the double visor for just over a year now..

Cheers Mick, in this case I'll give it a go. I see MC have them for £65, slightly cheaper than a new lid :thumb

I'll second what Mick_rw said up there about the System 5 double visor - very interesting experience though when all round the edges of your visor mists up and the middle stays clear.

Be careful of wiping the inner piece. I cleaned my visor without thinking the other day after a heavy rainstorm; wiped the outside then the inside with the same bit of tissue and scratched all the inside with the crap I'd just lifted off the outside. D'oh and another £65 to the Dutchman because now I get wonderfully pretty diffraction lines from the scratches all across my vision from every bright light. A row of cars braking can look like a disco as you approach.

lazer now only £150, i had one of those when they first came out, good lid, a bit high on the wind nosie, but with all the vents, you can think why. was one of the first lids to have single handed opening, and built in dark visor.

I have recently bought a Schuberth C2 and was under the impression that the visor wouldn't mist! Well the first trip in heavy rain resulted in having to open visor to see anything!

Anyway after checking my visor the inner coating was coming off. I have now just received a new replacement visor under warranty haven't tried it in the rain yet.

But for such an expensive helmet Im dissappointed about the anti mist.

Does anyone know if there is a double glazed visor available for the C2 or even a pinlock?

Thanks

Ian

The replacement Schuberth visors are much better and the coating does not peel off of them. I have also just got a pinlcok visor for m S1 from germany. Yet to be worn let alone tested in the wet!

Hmm, perhaps this is not for me then as I had the same problems with Fog City. Is the inner visor made of the same type of material? The Lazer is starting to look like a good bet. Anyone know of any Scottish stockists?

Another vote for Shoei with the pinlock. The only time it has misted on me is after I cleaned it and left some moisture in between the visor and the insert.

I use a Lazer Revolution with the supplied jet mask and even up and down the A9 through Drumochter in the sleet and snow it doesn't mist up.
Had to get a new visor for it recently and part of the helmet changes with it but even then it was only thirty odd quid for a new one.

I originally got mine from J & S in Hamilton.

Pinlock :thumb

Rode 600km in the pissing rain in March across europe.

No mist.

I have a similar sounding, year round, all weather commute as you

I use a C2 with a fog city insert, last winter I fitted a new insert and left the inner protecting film on for a few months then removed it when it got marked up, (normally by stuffing gloves and keys in the lid :o ) this gives a new lease of life just when the winter really starts bad.

I have found this, along with the multiple forms of ventilation available on the C2 adequate, all might have changed this year as the screen on the GSA is different so may cause a change in the ventilation :nenau Should be OK though :thumb

Seems like you have the old visor fitted. These had the coating all over the visor which eventually peeled where the helmet seal touches it. The new visors don't have the coating to the edge, mine was replaced FOC.

Having said that it still mists up in the wet, quite badly IMO, need to get a pinlock.
