Helmets - BMW v Caberg Flip Fronts?

Been offered cheap Cabergs......................

Think I`ll still go with the series 6 and see what I can get at the MCN show, eh?

You pay your money etc..

If you get a 6 post a report on it for those of us saving pennies for the next helmet. I've used the 5 for over 3 years now.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had some opinions on flip front helmets based on experience?

I need to renew mine and the airoh I use I am not best pleased with.

I fancy a Caberg or a BMW flip front.

Could any one help with some opinions please?

My first helmet was a Caberg which I sold to a friend 8 years ago and it is still going strong.
Since then I have had AVG a Schubert and now a BMW system 5, I also use a Caberg open face in the summer.

All I can say is you have to ask your self very carefully why am I spending all the extra on the Schubert or BMW when the Caberg offer a very good helmet fully safety certificated for a fraction of the price. I certainly would not rush out to buy an high priced helmet without first considering the lower priced options.

Id dearly like to know if the system 6 will fit into the old K100 panniers. The system 4 did, but the 5 doesnt :blast

Anyone know?

Sorry to hijack :augie

Yes.

It won't fit.

Ive had a Caberg Justissimo GT for nearly 2 years and have had no problems at all, ive just ordered the new Sentesi as i dropped the Justissimo, should be here tomorrow, will update after had a few rides with it :thumb

If you ride in the rain a small puddle will form in the "V" of the seal. When you open the visor it will drip on your nose and microphone if you're wired for sound. Exactly the same fault as the Sys5. It's just that your wet nose costs you less.

I'll be surprised if water doesn't leak past that seal with the visor shut as well, again at half the cost of the problem on a Sys5:D

Style over function :-(

iv had a caberg trip flip front for years, and ill buy another when it dies,
matt black(the hard wearing stuff)
flip front,
sunvisor,
enough room for the electronics you need

BMW dealer........

Mmmm, my local BMW dealer said that I would not get a series five under £225 - I don`t want to get cynical here but they wouldn`t all be related to Dick Turpin would they?

They have quoted me about £356 for a series 6 and I am oh so slightly tempted to take their `fantastic offer` with a smidge of salt...........

Or I could be just going to hell for saying that, I guess all the follow on posts will decide that, eh, troops?

I've also had a good experience of the Caberg Justissimo - got it about 4yrs ago (then £149), matt black. It is as good as new, has never leaked and the sun visor is great. Yes it is noisy, so earplugs a must. But I think it is great value for the money and I felt able to justify getting a TourX a couple of yrs later as well :D So you pays your money.... Options: Cheap flip + another helmet too or more expensive flip.....?

I have had a system 6 helmet for the last few months.
It's a lot lighter than my old helmet and quieter.

I have also had slight misting issues with it but put this down to riding in all weathers. Just open it a single click and problem solved without any water ingress.

I sweet talked Bahnstormers into throwing this helmet in with my bike when I bought it in December and overall have been impressed with it.

Recess areas at the sides for flat speakers means that I can now start looking for bike to bike communications (much to the disgust of the missus who WAS expecting a holiday:augie)

Hope this helps.

HI

caberg im on my second caberg now and only got the new one after damaging the old one when i hit the side of a car it handled the impact well and saved my head which is afterall what they are for.they are good in summer thanks to the flipdown dark visor, but i dofind that they fogup a bit in winter but they are pretty warm.they seem to me tobe noisier with the jaw bar fitted than with it removed and used as an open face:beerjug:

Started off with a Caberg trip and thought it was great - then got a Shuberth C2, the main difference for me was how quiet the C2 was, I use the Caberg for shorter journeys and the C2 for longer ones.

Caberg Trip

I have a Caberg Trip which is a comfortable helmet but bloody noisy above 40mph. I don't rate the ventilation that much as the visor steams up quite badly. The built in sun visor is a good idea but if it's fully extended it feels like it would amputate my nose were I in a crash. That might be down to the size of my snout though....:D

I bought a Shoei Raid 2 last year to wear on my charity trip and am still wearing that one. I have my eyes on the BMW System 6 for my next one though.

I still wear the Caberg when I go for a haircut to save the Shoei getting full of bits of grey hair:augie

i wear both,

very often and i prefer the caberg justisimmo, never had any hassle with them breaking or falling to pieces. cheaper and better in my humble opinion

cheers

pj

I bought two Caberg Trips. One for me and one for my girlfriend. For £99 a piece they seemed pretty good until you use them in the rain. They are lethal in fact because the water runs down the inside of the visor. My girlfriend hung onto hers as she is somewhat shielded by the rain and is not holding onto the handlebars :D

They can be a bit too breezy around the jaw area in cold weather and as others have said they are noisy over 40mph.

In the future I will probably plumb for a BMW system helmet of a shoei Multitec. Currently using an open face Osbe Tornado and full face Shoei Hornet.

The Caberg's are fine for nice Italian summer weather. beyond that I wouldn't recommend it.
