Helmets with sun visors

Seems to be a Schuberth / Caberg / System 6 contest at the moment for me to have a moveable sun visor.

I have a schuberth 3 which is excellent but I have heard some people have had problems with the normal visor - rain leakage. I got my mine at the Bike Show with a hefty discount. The sun visor is good in typical autumn weather with a low sun that keeps gpoing behind clouds and trees - very easy to use.

How do you get on with it riding at night? I tried that "Cat Crap" and it was good in the day time and better than the bob heath spray, but at night the waxy layer it put on the visor caught lights of car headlights and caused like a haze. So it stopped being cat crap and turned into just crap, and I went back to Bob Heath.

HI Ian,

Since I'm using the Pinlock visor for now, I only using the Fog Tech on my glasses. This was my biggest problem as they always fogged up before everything else. With Fog Tech I now have zero problems with steamed up glasses, and maybe because they are that much closer to my eye than the visor is I get no hazing effect. I have not tried it on a non-pinlocked visor at night as well as the glasses.

Value for money?

The Schuberth 3 is going to cost you around £450 ( the BMW is around £325 and the caberg around £100 I think What does the Schuberth do for the extra money?

I use the bike 5 days a week for commuting 35 miles each way. So getting something that should be relaible and will have a 2 year guarantee might tilt the balance in favour of the BM helmet. Extra price of the Schuberth doesn't seem to gain you anything, unless you have to have a full face rather than a flip top.

I tried the Schubeth on in Fowlers, Bristol and the visor seemed to be further away from my face so thought this may help with the anti fogging

My mate has the Shark evolution and thinks its the dogs doodas but i dont think he's used it in the rain yet

the Shark looks like a well designed helmet and I tried one on here in France - whnere they are manufactured. However, believe it or not, at 350€ it is more expensive here than a BMW System 6 in the UK so I went for the System 6.
With the System 6 comes a thick handbook - 32 pages in English. There are many variations possible to improve comfort, noise, "aerocostics" etc; and if, in the shop it is not quite right it can be made right providing you have the right size! Yes, there is a page entitled 'Helmet sizes" and a good salesman (few and far between in France) will ensure you are buying the right one.
The salesman showed me how to put 'mine' on and verified it was the right size and was not upset, bu incredulous to learn that I intended buy the same helmet in the UK for 250€ less. I have tried it out in town, at high speed and at night and after a couple of hundred kilometres it seems absolutely fine - not tried yet in the rain as yet however!

Just bought a Nolan N102 for my SO....really impressed with the quality, fit ect...looks better than my Schuberth C2! Has an exterior-mounted flip down sun visor (about £190) but I believe the newer version (N103) has it built inside like the Schuberth.....

She tried the Caberg but we both felt the quality, fit and comfort were far superior on the Nolan.

I went out yesterday to try some lids on to replace my winter lid, I tried flip ups on but i found with the lids locked down, it pushed hard into my cheek bones.

I dont really need a flip up so im going to try some full face lids with the sun visor, with regard to finish i was very impressed with the HJC, the lining was plusher than the caberg and equal to the system 6...cost £120.

May be worth throwing into the mix.

The HJC flip is the IS-Max which i what i tried on, more plush and a larger gap between the chin bar and your chin than teh Caberg.

As always i suggest you try before you buy

I tried a Shark S900 and Shark Evo today, as a flip the Evo was the best ive tried by far ( for my head) but at £250, so it should be.

Im going to go for the S900 full face, nice lid for work to replace my old and recently dropped Aria , i like the idea of the built in sun visor as im starting to go to work when its dark and its not good for my black visors on my other lids.

RRP £200 at my local Yam dealer and ive sourced a new one on Ebay for £139 and i can pick it up from them and try it on as its local

I've currently got the HJC IS-16 which is a nice lid for the money.

I'd struggle to get by without an internal sun visor and it's the first thing on the list when it comes to helmet time.

I rate the Caberg Justissimo. The internal visor stays clean (no bugs in summer or crud in winter. Good fit too!
