Someone enlighten me please ... what's a "jet helmet" ?

I have seen...
what remains of a chin and lower jaw/teeth when a rider with an open face helmet decked it and met tarmac at 20mph only in the South of France......reconstructive surgery was the only option- big time- what a mess..... geeeshhhhhhhhh.
Open face? no thank you.

Saw the same thing happen on a dirt road in Kenya, the guy lost half of his face. Binned my open face haven't considered one since.

i just couldn't stop myself
i prefer open face/jet helmets. i like them!
for;
better peripheral vision.less restricted head movement. more acute hearing and not as noisy as full face, lighter. no misting problems. more ventilation. less claustrophobic.ease of communication to pillion or trainee often the case for me. less risk of neck/upper spine injury. (that last bit is bound to get me flamed )
against;
risk of facial injury. colder (allegedly - but i DO use a full face too and see little difference.)
hmmm...i honestly cannot think of more reasons against
though maybe its a result of the 20mph spill i had while wearing one
which incidentally - cost me 3 ops on my nose, some small scarring and some nerve damage to my forehead. but if i'd been wearing a full face - i'd have had my jaw wired for 3 months and would've been feeding through a straw for the duration.

i do not promote the use of one style over the other. just pick whatever set of risks you feel most comfortable with and go from there. but i am fed up with hearing how bad open face lids are.

You are so correct. There is proof that full face helmets are breaking necks. You may get some face damage with an open face helmet, but you can still walk. They are looking at a new design full face where the chin will come off on impact.
Most of the time I do wear a full face but as a jet helmet in the summer
