Noticed since changing to the GS I am riding so much more with the visa up .
Is this why a lot of GS riders go for the Arai X helmet or is it a fashion thingy.

Or maybe it's because the peak means you can ride into low sun and still see where you're going, that the peripheral vision is fantastic, and that they're surprisingly quiet compared to many of the sports-bike oriented helmets.

Ya I bought a Rallye 2 suit piece of shit that is :D Glad I bought it cheep second hand

It's the weight of the full face sports helmets that I struggle with - and the lack of visor. This matters most if you're on a lot of bumpy roads. I bought a white (v.important) trials lid and goggles and never regretted it for a second. Cost me £40. I've ridden 650 mile days in it - no problem. If I went down the road on my face I'd probably regret the decision, but on balance I feel I'm less likely to with the open face number. It's a bit like the story about the way to stop car accidents is not to make cars crumple and airbags and seatbelts etc etc etc - just fasten a large spike to the steering wheel, aimed at driver's chest. No more accidents - well, very few anyway - and they'd be low speed and we certainly wouldn't need helicopter paramedics rushing about....

The white helmet bit? - well the difference in keeping a cool head in hot climates is astonishing.

.

I use a full face race lid, very light, very quiet, a third the price of the tour X, quick swap visor etc etc.

The Mrs got a tourX (because Charlie + Ewan had one). Pice of crap gave us more grief on a 3 week tour than any other piece of kit. Noisy was the big one. And the 4 scew system for visor changing is a pain in the arse you dont need on the side of the road in a sudden, windy downpour.

As for the cars and spikes theory the whole reason volvo invented the seat belt was because people drove like idiots despite been in obviously dangerous vehicle designes. It might work for a short while but the effect would soon wear off ! Driver KNOW they are too skilled to ever crash :nono

Gerrys law of white helmets

Anyone else notice (or suspect) that motorists behave better when followed by a white helmet. Its my hypothesis, perhaps not a law yet; butthe law has something to do with it.

Mm especiallly when a splash of hi viz clothing is added and maybe a lead running out of the lid to a gps or autocom amazing how driving standards improve

I bought a Tour X because the BMW SpurtIntegral was too stuffy. Three months and 3k miles it has proved to be comfortable and well vented. It is not unduely loud (wear plugs anyway) and the visor is good to keep sun out of eyes. I do not like wearing shades in strong sun as you can see SFA as you enter shade. Only prob has been cracked plastic grill on chin guard. Looked at the Ralley2 suit - bought HG's equivelant.
