Im no PC expert but this has got me baffled.
I have switched my PC on today and not only has every Email gone missing (in all folders) but all the other folders I have created over the years have gone too (such things as "cycles" or france trip" etc etc).

The only thing have I have done (yesterday, as i was about to switch the PC off was "compact my emails").
but surely this wouldnt have resulted in the above anyway !!!???

Does anyone know why this will have happened and more importantly, how do i retrieve all the Emails and folders ???

thanks all

On the assumption that you were using MS Outlook - have a search for where the .pst file is (which contains all your mails)

Then re-open Outlook and check that Outlook is looking in the right place for the file.

Might be an idea to copy the PST file to a USB drive, then in Outlook - Import the original pst into the "personal folder" in Outlook.

Re outlook and pst files. Outlook uses pst, outlook express uses a typical Microsoft approach of spreading files into lots of random folders.

Let us know what your using and hopefully we can help

Thanks so far guys.
Im not brilliant with PC's but im damn sure im on Outlook Express (well, its says so on the toolbar)

Further to answer above, I have now found my missing folders in the recycle bin as a "Bak" file, although im buggered how to get them back into where i want.
I have tried "restoring" one of them, and it dissapears altogether (and not back to OExpress) !!

Maybe not helping you but coincidentally a mate called me today with his AOL mail on his PC doing exactly the same, mails were there in the list but when he tries to open any the page is blank, I told him to call AOL as all seems ok on his phone..

Oh yes it would! The 'compact my e-mails' instruction can take ages to perform and the HDD light won't tell you that there's anything happening. As others have said, Outlook Express doesn't store files in any kind of conventional manner. Been there, got the T-Shirt - and used Thunderbird ever since.

And before you ask, I never retrieved the lost e-mails.

Good Luck
