Hello all

After just being piped to the post AGAIN on ebay (I always seem to be outbid by a pound or two), I would appreciate any advice or assistance.

I seemed to think that in the past I've seen reference to programs that can 'help' with bidding at the last moment etc. and I wonder if I should get this program, I certainly seem to be feeling the effects of someone else having it.

I'm not a dealer in any way and have only ever sold one thing on ebay, but I do bid on items and it is very frustrating to always miss out, especially when its only by a pound or two which has been bid 30 seconds before the end of the auction.

Any help very greatfully received, please feel free to reply to this or PM me directly

Many Thanks

I think it is called "auction sniper" - download from the web (search on Google) and it bids for you at the last second.

As long as you're on broadband, only bid a max of 10 seconds before the auction ends, with the maximum amount you're willing to spend..........

I'm normally sitting there with one tab set up with my bid amount, just waiting to press "bid now" and another tab set up on the item itself, which I can keep refreshing to see what's happening.

Any other bidders will be doing this too and with a 10 sec bid, by the time they see that it's changed, they won't have time to up their bid........

Another way is not to watch the item, as the seller will know it's being watched. Keep a note of the item number, or take it out of your "my ebay" bit a few hours before the auction ends. That way, they won't stick in a bid of their own, or get a mate too, cos they know you're watching & waiting.

Above all remember, if you've put your max amount in and lost it, somebody wanted it more and there'll always be another - you just have to wait.

Fanums link probably says all this too :D

I can't be arsed with all that last minute bidding: I know far too many people who spend their time trying to get "bargains" on Ebay. They have garages full of tat.

I only ever bid on stuff I really want. I decide the maximum price I'm willing to pay for the item and make a bid at that level. Often many hours before the auction ends. If I win the item then whoopee. If someone else is willing to pay more than me then good luck to the seller.

There is a slight risk that I could pay more than if I had monitored the auction in the last few minutes due to shill bids. I don't think it's happened to me very often though.

Trust your gut instinct on the value of an item, bid accordingly and don't become one of those people who get a thrill from Ebaying: something that has become recognised as a compulsive disorder along the lines of gambling.

I agree, I tend to only bid once and normally 5 or 10 minutes before the end.

Enter one high bid and walk away.

This works for me but recently I have seen an item rise GBP300+ in the last 90 seconds and I have also thrown several hundred at an item once only to see it go for GBP80 (I was happy)

A word of caution, dont wait until the last 20 seconds and then place a bid on a real bargain, only to find you forgot to log in....

I'm with Jon :thumb

There are too many thieves on ebay who will artificially bump up the price of something if they see watchers or bids, so I decide how much I want to spend and throw it in at the last minute. That way the fat, lying, thieving bastards from Lisburn get disappointed :thumb
