Hi all, got your site from the BMW owners club hoping you can help.
I have wanted to get a R1150GS for a long now but have always been put off by the seat height. I am 5' 7" with a 29" inside leg and have fitted on a R1150R before with a low seat but feel the standard GS,even with the low seat, is still too high.
Is there any way of getting the seat height to a min of 800 mm or lower. Do any members have the same problems as me and if so , how have you sorted it ?
I hope someone can help as i would love to be able to get the bike of my dreams, ( or am i deemed not tall enough to own a GS!) Hope not.

Thanks, Paul.

Hi,

There are several options available. First, you can get a lowered seat, and second, you can get lowered shocks. That should sort you out nicely.

I'm afraid I can't help you out with prices, as I have no knowledge of these things. I'm sure others know. Try doing a search.

i too am vertically challenged being 5ft 6in, tested a 12gs the other week with a standard seat.:(

after a nervous few minutes stop start in heavy traffic, i soon felt confident.:) you soon get used to sliding off the seat a little to get a foot down.

since ordered a GS with a low seat:D just go for it man.

...so you're taller than me then!

Not a great problem, once you get used to the thing - even fully laden two-up touring.

Don't let it intimidate you!!

Its a Confidence thing

And always plan your landings.

PS stick the suspension on softest for a while I found after a couple of rides I'd stiffened up and had no probs.

LOL

My girlfriend is 5'6" & can ride my 1150GS with the standard seat on the low position no problem at all.

Matron would answer if she read this but sadly she stepped in a puddle earlier and is still trying to wade out ;) :D

As they've said Paul, t'ain't no problem once you've taken the plunge.......just go for it (and remember to get engine bars ;) )

Legs

Just to concur with everyone else, you do adjust. But if you want to make specific adjustments to the seat you will find little variation by moving the seat adjustments or by ordering a new "off the rack seat" like a Corbin. I would recommend you mailing Rocky at Bill Mayer saddles. He's the best! If you are thinking about an 1150 he can do wonders. The 1200's are a little tougher. I was miserable in my factory seat (1200GS) after Rocky rebuilt my seat, even though my legs are longish Rocky raised the seat height for greater comfort in then retracted position. So I have to stretch a bit to get to the ground, but you do adjust. And the comfort was is well worth it.

Take care, CaptainGS
