So!
I’ve had bmw navigator V
Sat in the drawer unused for a couple of years(with the battery taken out)
Just bought a new bike(new to me anyways)
And thought I’d crank it up and get it updated, et cetera, but! While it’s plugged in and”charging” it seems to switch itself on and off almost like going through a reboot
It does actually charge and when I take the lead out, it will go to the main screen, but obviously it’s looking for satellites which you can’t find because it needs an update
But as soon as I plug it into my Mac it does exactly the same. It just goes from on off on off.
Not giving the computer enough time to recognise it to be able to install a update
Anybody had a similar issue and had a fix for it?
I have restored it back
And also done, they finger on the right corner whilst starting it up
But nothing seems to have fixed it
Any advice guys?

Is it on a dedicated charger or on the computer ? My only thought would be to fully charge it before connecting to a computer, it may be using more power being on, than is being supplied, and is basically running out of battery.

Yeah, even though it switches itself on and off and goes through a reboot cycle it does however charge it was a full charge via the plug socket before I attempted to plug it into the Mac
So it does actually charge, even though it’s on the reboot cycle and as soon as I take the lead out it does come on just obviously when I plug it into anything it instantly goes to a reboot cycle

can you try it in another device with a USB socket to make sure the problem is not your Mac failing to do a proper handshake rather than the Nav being the culprit?

Are you using the Garmin usb cable?

I've had issues with my Nav6 when trying to use random cables

Good shout although the Mac is only 4months old
And it does it in the Mac,a socket with a usb port
I’ve even tried plugging in to a plug with a usb port then plugging it in too the socket
I’ve ordered a new data/charge cable just in case tho 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok so that rules that out.
If there is a SD card in it remove that and see if it still does the reboot cycle.

Its not impossible that the battery although showing a full charge, is broken.

Yeah there’s no card in it
Like I said earlier, I did manage to get to a full charge and left it unplugged and switched on for about eight hours just to see if it was holding a charge and there were still plenty of life in the battery after that amount of time

Have you got Garmin Express on the computer? It sounds like the Mac isn’t recognising the Nav and kicking it out maybe?

Is the Nav set to Mass Storage in the settings? I seem to recall it can be toggled ….id like to be able to say I know about these things but in truth I’m just guessing.

I’ll have a look mate don’t remember seeing anything about mass storage

If Mass Storage doesn't sort it, try it on a Windows PC if you can. If it still keeps rebooting, the USB port on the Nav might be the problem.

Yeah couldn’t find anything that relates to mass storage still awaiting a new lead but that’s a thought!
I’ll try that next cheers lads super appreciate everyone’s input

Found the mass storage settings tried all three no joy also tried it in a Windows PC no joy last piece of the puzzle awaiting Amazon with a new lead then after that🤷🏻‍♂️

Put it into simulator mode if you are able to, I always do that when charging, it stops the device using excess power trying to locate satellites.
This may stop the reboot, if it does leave it charge for a few hours.

Have you tried it on a bike/car cradle whilst out riding/driving? (not in simulator mode)

Tried simulator made and still goes into a reboot cycle
