I recently bent my (standard BMW 1150 ADV) crash bars on a car, which foolishly crossed my path, while filtering on the M25. I was impressed with the way they creased the car's door and knocked off it's wing mirror and kept me upright during the incident, but they are now about 30 degrees out of alignment.

Hitting them with a heavy hammer has made no impression.

What do I do now? Do I have to buy new ones or can they be straightened out?

Bin em and get some hepco & becker bars from motoworks. Much better:thumb2
The BM bars are the worst culprits for flipping the bike over onto the petrol tank which is rather costly
If you don't use it off-road you're probably better fitting some of steptoes head guards. Look in "vendors of innovation" :thumb2

Bin them once they are bent and straightened they are never as strong, this is a result of an off with H&B bars on my ADV

cost £150 to sort dent and respray tank
you could always wrap the old BMW bars around the car drivers neck :thumb

Thanks PIGGLET & zdaveuk! Looks like I'd better replace them with another type. I'll check out the alternatives.

I've bent mine loads of times :augie Remove the rubber grommet then slide in a pinch bar in then use a 6" scaffold pole :thumb

Job done :clap

We carry a dirty great pry bar on the supoprt truck for exactly the same reason.

Just bend them back- the amount of weakness that causes will be minimal IMHO, as long as the bars aren't creased or the welds weakened.
