I just popped into the man cave to check on bike as was planning on using it tomorrow... Sometimes the battery discharges if not used for a few weeks.

Alarm (Datatool S4) was in safe mode, turned ignition on and off then disarmed with remote, but didm't get the usual beeps and flashes. Without thinking then turned ignition on again which triggered the alarm.

It has been sounding for the last 30 minutes and no matter what combination of buttons I try on either remote, it will not stop shrieking. Already had one neighbour round...

Both remotes have the red light showing when I try to switch alarm off. Bike battery clearly low according to trickle charger.

Any suggestions from you gurus out there? I and my neighbours would be so relieved if any ideas come through!

Might not be much help, but maybe there's another signal interfering with the unit?. Perhaps if you stand as close as you can to the alarm unit (maybe from a few angles to shield it) and try the remote again?

It's all I can think of. But haven't heard much good about the datatool alarms

Has it stopped yet? ;)
First thing I did when I got my latest GS that had an alarm fitted was get the thing removed. More trouble than they are worth. Paul at Paul Nobbs Motorcycles in Sutton near Ely will do it. If you haven't discovered his place you really should do. Great guy and brilliant mechanic.

Remove it, the S4 is more bother than it's worth and won't make any difference to your insurance. There's probably a better way but meantime just find the unit and muffle it as best as you can to appease the neighbours...or if you keep the bike battery disconnected long enough the battery in the unit itself will lose charge and pack in.

This is the same method recommended by the manufacturers and it works : http://www.sonicsideshow.com/blog/-how-to-bypass-a-datatool-system-3-motorcycle-alarm

If you contact them they will ask for copies of V5 etc and any reference numbers before telling you to do what is described in the link.

Good luck!

My bad, the link is for the S3, does anyone know if they are both set up in the same way?

Annoyingly still going...

I was away in the middle east and had left the bike with my local workshop with a long list of things to be done by my return in Dec 17, unfortunately, I got back early and the only thing not done was removing the blooming' alarm. I have wrapped the area around the bike in al sorts of mufflers and burned the bike under most of my kit. Maybe resulting in a reduction of a couple of db's!

I'll have to go round the neighbours tomorrow to apologise and explain.

The noise coming from the alarm isn't the usual wailing siren, it's more a repeated intermittent shrieking.

Another one for alarmasectomy.
I have taken 2 of 1150s, as long as you take one wire off at a time and reconnect to the same colour in the loom it's easy.
Datatool = trouble when the vehicle gets a few yrs old..

With the bike battery disconnected, alarm battery at last died! Looks like I am now going to get a reasonable night's sleep!

Thanks for all your support. Alarmasectomy most definitely next job planned.

Next time I buy a bike with one already fitted, will get it removed straight away.
