I have read that the factory panniers have been known to come off en route.
I have the opposite problem, put a pannier on yesterday and now can't get it off !
I go to France for a week on wednesday and i suppose it is better to just leave it on but i would have liked the option of taking it into the hotel with me.
Has anyone else had this problem ? any ideas for getting it off? my nearest dealer is 50 miles away and I can't get to them before the holiday.

hi clive
i had the same problem but i realized the small catch that locks the pannier in place when you lift the red lever had not moved all the way so yo just need to lock it back and then retry

There is a bit of a knack to it. Make sure the front clip is released lift the red handle next to the yellow lid release and pull up the red retainind clip on the mounting point. Now stick your finger under this red clip on the mounting point and lift from there while supporting the bottom of the case. Had the same problem when I first got my cases, took it back to my dealers who did what I have just described and left me looking like a complete prat :(

I had a similar problem but the locking mechanism in one of my panniers was actually broken, and wouldn't retrtact the locking bar far enough. I had to take it back to the dealers who gave me a new pannier.

If it is simply bad adjustment then you can see the "locking bar" by looking underneath from the opposite side - you may be able to free it with a long thin screwdriver.

Once you get the bag off, check the height of the stainless steel mounting stud at the top. Mine go on and off pretty easily, and my mounting bolt is adjusted such that the bottom of the "head" is about 22mm from the frame, where it screws in.

Hope that helps...

Oh, and don't forget to tighten it well. If you don't, and it gets loose, then it can be a real bitch to get the luggage off.

I have the same problem with rhs pannier (other one works a treat but the nut is loose and so will probably get stcuk?!?!). Took it back to Vines. 4 guys couldn't get it off and decided that the locking mechanism is bust and going in tomorrow to have it changed. Absolute pain as I feel they could have checked it at the dealership before I rode off 50 miles - specially given that they charge for fitting.

Thanks for the suggestions, gazza's worked (holding the red tab and supprting the bottom of the case) but the clip still did not lift off cleanly, I will check the height of the fitting as has also been suggested.
I am not that impressed with the panniers- all that plastic in particular, and I am not convinced I will not have the same problem getting the case off again. (interestingly it was the RHS case that was stuck on mine but I am sure that is just a coincidence).

If you don't like the plastic panniers, you must hate the plastic bike :D

Seriously, I think the panniers are fine. I don't imagine they are as strong as aluminium ones would be, but mine are standing up to natural wear and tear nicely so far. Seem far better built than Givi boxes, which are quite flimsy by comparison.
