I'm of to Ireland on the Dakar( this morning)on a wee trip and my clutch seems to be slipping, only in the lower gears- i am changing up so fast in first, second and dont seem to be getting any where fast. Any ideas??????

Have you just changed your oil in readiness for the trip?
This can cause a bit of slippage sometimes but should sonn settle down.

So going by that comment,you`ve got a previously known problem with your bike which hasn`t just occurred for the first time today ???
i felt there was a drop in performance in the lower gears wasnt sure if i was just getting board,if you know what i mean. But over the last day or so the bike has started to not pick up properly in the lower gears, although the engine is sounding same and the bike performs ok in top gears. I seem to be hitting the hi revs very quick in low gears. it seems worst when the bike is hot and the weather is too.... ?????????

Firstly,it`s a tad unfair on everyone`s sense of goodwill to post a 'Help...trip in jeopardy' which makes everyone think you`ve suddenly encountered a last minute problem which may spoil or cancel a trip.
The reality is that you`ve been too lazy to investigate when you had plenty of time to make good a repair,and now the clock is ticking..........
Anyway,there`s a good chance that your clutch actuating pushrod piston is binding,especially as it gets warm.
It`s a piss easy job to check.....remove the clutch actuatator arm then pull out the pushrod and piston assembly and clean everything... including inside the clutch pushrod tunnel.... then lube it all up.
Clean and lube your clutch cable and lever pivots while you`re at it.
LATE EDIT.....Just seen that your profile says F650 so that advice won`t be valid if it`s your only bike.
However,if you dash out and buy a boxer,you`ll be able to sort the problem.

Thanks for the advice tarka, dont thank you for the judgement, the truth is i put the bike in the local garage a week ago to have tyres changed and to give it once over and have a look at the bike re possible clutch problems, they did not return the bike after the two days promised due to them being (over workerd) in fact i got the bike last night at 6pm after me having to nag them to change the tryes before i took it. they said they (didnt get round to test riding it) so could comment on the clutch. AS far as being unfair on others i am sorry if i seemed a little drematic but been up most of the night trying to find a bike mechanic or bike to hire for the trip.
I didnt want to rant about the problems with my local garage i just wondered if any one had any advice and for that i am very appreciative...

You should have put it all in your opening post and you wouldn`t have got yer arse chewed.

Hmm....does sound like the clutch itself rather than a badly routed cable or something daft.
Is there a 'freeplay' adjustment you can make...along the lines of some bikes where you give the cable full freeplay then adjust a centre screw on the clutch ?
Saying that,does it have a cable or a hydraulic clutch ?
Some slave cylinders on hydraulic clutches can seize.

I live near weaverham but its ok man, thanks for any help but i will figure something out: i am going to go on it so how far i get and let fate decide...
If i cant get , on route to fishguard i will hire a bike maybe.. there is a place there that hires an 800 out...
