We've just got a new Sky HD box, which I was just about to set up when I realised that once that's done we lose the content stored on the old Sky + box.

Does anyone have a DVD recorder I could borrow to copy the content off the old box onto DVD please? Will happily pick up and return.

thanks,

No need.
Run the original box in series with the new HD one...
New into HDMI 1
Old into HDMI 2..
To run them in series you will need a short bridge wire from HD box output to orig box input [the dish wire will go into the HD box input]
Only prob with skyboxes is, they all use the same remote...so mask off the remote window on the old box and peel it when you need to watch it's content....
IF you have the latest skybox, some have a USB input..
If so you, can forget all the above and just connect the old box to new via usb and transfer content that way...

Same way as you can now transfer recordings to mem stick on the new HUMAX FOXTD2's..

Hi Proff, thanks for the advice. Tried copying out via the USB, doesn't work - the USB seems to be for some Sky function.

I'm not sure if they can be run in series - there's only 1 viewing card, as soon as I take that out the old Sky box doesn't allow viewing of content. The only way I can see to get content out (except by buying TV capture cards and the like) is a Scart connected recorder.

On the old Humax freesat, they had one USB, out only, to send to pc via a humax d/l programme. problem was the transfer took up same amount of space and soon filled up your HD's
Now they have an input and output,,,
output from old to new works but not other way round..
Same with new Sky HD box..front one is input/output, rear is input only..iirc
But as I stated, it's only the very latest HD box that has 2 USB's...
Also borrow a mates skycard or a cancelled subs one [loads about from folk cancelling paid sky, and just using freesat..] it still allows normal viewing of freechannels plus your recordings..

I have one you can borrow if you still need it. I hope you are patient as I suspect you have to do each programme individually and record in real time. Last time I looked Sky box was very closed and proprietary.

Just in the process of leaving Sky to go to BT....

he dropped in and collected my unit the other day.... let's hope he's on it...:thumb2
