Bike was sorned for a few months in my parents garage. When I went to start it (having added a brand new battery) the starter would turn but the clutch didn't engage (whirring/clicking noise) eventually had this sorted by my mechanic but when I went to start the bike this morning nothing happens when I hit the starter button. Battery is fine but the lights don't dim when the button is pressed so its not even engaging the starter motor? what are the connections to the starter? wondering if one came loose having been worked on? any ideas appreciated happy to replace the starter motor but don't think thats the issue?

side stand would be why clutch would nto engage but fact it now wont turn over does not sound like starter.

i had that prob and was the battery that lost charge. take batt out, charge it over night and then try it. if the batt drops well below 12.5 volt then batt is problem

could try checking that the gear indicator is working and that its in neutral, may be daft but dont forget the emergency kil switch. i spent ages trying start bike and was the switch was set to off

wobbled the sidestand and sprayed with WD40 and Im getting intermittent starting so starter motor is fine thanks for the tip

check the clutch switch, you can by pass the wires using a paperclip that engage the sidestand. i had do it on kle before. in fact i think i may disconnect the switch on bmw as it can get damaged easily on off road event

best luck getting it started, amazing what a simple usless switch can do to ruin your day

is that the switch on the actual clutch lever? I can see a couple of wires heading into it?

bike has been laid up for quite a while and was never an issue before Im hoping that this will just pass the more I start it

cheers

i cant remember my own bike exactly but yes the wilres will be going directly into the clutch housing on the left handlebar.

usualy just a small connector with 3 pins inside and stick small piece wire into opne and link to the other, will have try each pin to see which on bypasses the other one. if i am right you should have stick it into the first pin and then link it to the far pin skipping the middle pin
