Looking for some advice... 2001 Gs. When I go to start the bike the fuel pump primes and when I press the button the solenoid clicks but the starter isn't engaging. Battery is good and checked the connections on the starter motor. This is the bike I rebuilt so wondering if something is playing up. :nenau Not at home at the mo or I would try swapping starters from Room101s and have access to tools and TFM! Cheers.

Starter motor.
Check the earth lead, as the symptoms sound exactly as a bike I had.
The earth lead corrodes at the engine connection, so although you may get continuity from the engine earth to battery, the earth may not be good enough to turn the starter motor.
Quick check - use a good quality jump lead, clamp it on the negative lead, then find a clean and good engine earth, clamp the opposite end, and start the bike. If the bike starts and runs okay using the jump lead, but is erratic when you disconnect the jump lead, then the negative earth - usually at the engine connection is bad.
solution, disconnect esrth lead, clean using emery/ sandpaper, clean engine mount, apply copperslip, reassemble and bike should .
start.
Hope this helps, should you need further info, please let me know.

Must check this myself.

Came off nights yesterday and got down to business this morning. When I started checking things over I looked at the starter motor again and although everything seemed ok I thought I would nip everything up just to check and turned out the nut for the wire from the solenoid to the motor wasn't tight. Nipped it up and hey presto. Cheers for the help. :thumb
