Hi peeps, just bought a new IMac 27in :augie
Its absolutely brilliant but im having some trouble finding my files. If i open a picture from iPhoto then use Photoshop Elements 8 to edit it, when i save it i cant seem to find it. The only way i can find it is to go to "Finder" then look on "Today" drag it onto the desktop and then back to the folder it was in. All this after i told it to save it in the original folder. It seems to be placed into a folder extension of the original called modified but cannot access it any other way. Probably some really simple thing im doing wrong but its doing my head in, one thing i did like about windows was the easy filing system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Alan :beerjug:

Are you certain the 'modified' folder can't be accessed normally?

When in finder, type the file name or folder name into the search field at the top right. This will help you locate it. To help you, ensure you unhide the Path Bar in Finder's view options.

Another quick way to search for stuff with Spotlight is to hit Apple-Spacebar from anywhere, it will bring up the search field for you.

I noticed that with iPhoto when I got my MAC - it seems to move the photos around so that any modifications keep a copy of the original and then autosave the modifications as well (all in some complex subfolder structure) - kind of a pain in the butt if you are used to photos staying where you put them and modifications needing to be manually saved - but at least you then know where they were saved.

I have not tried using iPhoto with Photoshop Elements to see how the two react together .

open file rename it ver 1.0 and save it right at the start, then make you adjustments etc. Otherwise the mac will save it for you and it'll be all over the shop.

I personally only use iPhoto as a catalogue and do all my manipulation prior to importing them there.

In your case, if you're needing to do something with the modified pics and they are visible as modified within iPhoto, perhaps you could select the ones you need and export them. This is what I do when I want to get smaller ones to upload online. Not very efficient I know, but at least the export includes the resizing. Trash the exports once you're done with them.
