Help for the confused - please

A friend has sent me a route as a .gdb file.

I have City Navigator Europe v9 and when I try to open the file I get a message saying that the file can't be opened because it uses a subsequent file version. I can apparently only read MPS files and GDB files version 2 or earlier.

I don't seem to be able to save them as anything else.

Is there a way around this or do I need v10/2008?

You need to update mapsource not the maps. Its a 50meg download from Garmin. That"ll sort it.

Thanks richie. I've had a look at the Garmin interweb pages and I assume that it is the MapSource software version 6.13.7 as of February 27, 2008 of which you speak?
I'll give it a go tonight.

conversion software

Not sure if this helps but I have been using this to convert garmin files to work with google earth. There are a few garmin formats listed, gdb, mps, xml, and txt, is changing between these any good?

I did it and it worked!

Followed the instructions and it loaded straight away and means I can open the routes I've been sent.

Oh great now 've got it too except mine says " GDB version 1.0 file or earlier"..... I had to reinstal Mapsource coz the HD was on the blink but after installing and updating to the latest version on Garmin's site I can't open route files that I have created and used previously ..... any ideas anyone?
