HELP! Garmin 2820

I had a Garmin 2820 using mapsource city navigator Europe NT version 8 before this unit was returned to Garmin I downloaded all existing maps waypoints etc. Garmin have sent me a refurbished device and when I go into mapsource and try to upload the data from my previous unit I am informed that although the data is uploaded the maps are not unlocked. Even when i reenter the 25-digit code, the unit does not unlock the maps. Can anyone help because we depart for Germay tomorrow and it will be tiresome having to use paper maps! Alternatively does anyone know of a good source of info available over the weekend …

Surely the 2820 already has full European mapping installed? If you are trying to upload maps from Mapsource, there isn't much point and the unit mapping is probably more up to date anyway. Try just uploading the waypoints and routes.

The unit will automatically recalculate the routes if the maps are different from Mapsource, so check to see you have the right routing after import.

We wish it were that simple but the unit is only installed with the Basemap. We need to install our mapsource maps from the disc.

It seems bizarre that Garmin have sent out a unit without pre-installed mapping, which is what the 2820 came with. I'm sure you have already done this, but check that the CN 'loaded' box is checked, and look at the Map Info page. If your unit really doesn't have CN installed, then you will need a code from Garmin.

I think Gary's already sent Garmin a bit of a heated email in his frustration as we are going away tomorrow and they don't have telephone assistance at the weekend. Does anyone know of a retailer that will give advice over the phone?

The unit is 'reconditioned' so we cannot register it as it is still registered to someone else!
