I bought my 02 1150GS back in March, all going well until I did my back in 3 weeks ago and have not started the bike until today. Now when I turn on the ignition the alarm goes off (I didn't know it had one, didn't come with a key fob) also immobilised. Has this come on because battery has drained a bit?, I don't suppose it will go off when I charge the battery, any suggestions on how to turn it off? How does the alarm know when the fuse box lid is off? (it keeps going then). I haven't lifted the tank yet but would I be able to get a new fob from a make and model number? Any other ideas? (i am trying to contact seller but expect if he did'nt give me a fob then I will get no luck there).

cheers

Any idea of the make of alarm, or a brief description of the fob

It didn't come with a fob, I have yet to get tank up/off to check the make. Its the 1st time so I am checking out how to move the tank in the manual, also I had stupidly backed the bike out of my garage before trying it so now need to get a couple of spare hands to help me push it back (uphill!), my back is starting to recover but I don't want to be straining it. The manual doesn't mention alarm or immobiliser does it come with either as standard?

Some alarms have an inline fuse on a live line taken from the battery, check for an addittional red wire coming off the live terminal for the battery and if fitted remove the inline fuse, this should disable it.:nenau But check where it goes first as there may be others for ancillary equipment.:augie

Your having a laugh :D - if thats how easy you disable an alarm whats the point of having it.
If it is fused, and you remove the fuse, not only will you disable the alarm you'll also disable the bike. And if the alarm has it's own power you'll also set off the noisey part :blast .

I bow down to your greater wisdom:bow but that is the setup on mine, not mentioning the make but it is quite old, fair point about disabling the bike though, but mine dosen't have an immobiliser, just makes a racket if disturbed, guess I should have mentioned that:blast I'll keep quiet in the future:augie

Well I've drained the tank and taken it off, I guess that the alarm is the black box in front off the battery with "meta system" on it, there is a mass of wires which look well embedded into the harness (I dont like touching wiring at the best of times) also dangling on a wire is a small black plastic disc with a red led on it that looks as if it could have been stuck to the inside of the petrol tank.
I have seen what I think is a magnet stuck to the fuse box lid, which would account for that tripping it.
Does anything normally fill the space in front of the battery?
I think removing the alarm will be beyond me, unless there are any suggestions?

cheers

I've got a Meta alarm on mine, with the same black plastic disc with an LED. Mine uses a fob to arm/disarm
Do you have a five digit pin number? If you do you can disarm it by going through another process which would be easier to talk you through on the phone.

Call me if you have a pin, and we'll see what we can do

Thanks for the offer, I'm still waiting for the guy I bought it off to get back to me, he says he has some bits in his attic for the bike! Fingers crossed that there is a pin code, what year did they start having pin codes? looking on meta's website it seems the early ones didn't.

I'm not having much luck getting pin code or info (or a reply) from last owner. Maybe I should try and contact older owners or Meta themselves? Anyone know someone who can work on alarms in South Dorset?
Should I get it taken off or have a replacement, I don't really want the added complications that an alarm can give but don't want to spend a fortune getting it off either. I cant see from the alarm itself what model it is, and even though I have what seems like service notes from day 1 there's no reference to an alarm.

Try and get in touch with Meta, explain the situation ( they may need proof of the bike sale to you) and ask how to disable. When that's done, find out how to remove it completely.
IMHO alarms are more trouble than they are worth.
Hope you get it fixed.

All you have to do is follow the meta wiring back to find out which circuits they have cut into to immobilise the bike, its usually the starter and ignition circuits and proably somewere near the ecu, simply unsolder the meta wires and join the original wires back together, ignore the wiring to the indicators and power supply they don't matter.then just unplug the meta control unit from its loom, if you are being really fussy you can remove all the meta wiring but there isn't any real need to.
job done.
