Can anyone advise what goes into the hole fitted with a grommet in the air box cover RH half ?

It’s a 1977 R100S

I don’t think it’s original BMW. The only things going on in the there are the air filter and the crankcase breather. It’s possible that someone routed wires through there for a hidden kill switch but I can think of other better places.

Thanks - I'll blank it of with a sealed grommet

I'm thinking a hole for an electronic ignition kit. But could be for anything.

Hi,
That hole or grommet is not present on my 77 R100/7 or 78 R100RT, can't imagine why someone has put it there.

Taking the rubber grommett out it is eveident that a previous owner has drilled this , for what purpose unknown . I have fitted a blanking grommet for now and will look for a replacement part
