HELP, Im going to Germany

Try this place about 14km from the Nurburgring.
I've stayed there a number of times and it has always been first class.
The owner (Christian) is a biker and there is always a warm welcome for other bikers. He is also a chef and the food is excellent, for example the trout and vension are "grown" on the premises.

Have a good time :thumb

There's a brilliant twisty/hairpinned road descending from Freudenstadt over towards the A5 Autobahn (direction of Strasbourg). It's well worth leaving the 500 for as it's a totally different ride than the fast run you'll have had. I'll post up details of this road when I get home tonight.

It's the B28 Freudenstadt to the A5 Autobahn at Oberkirch. The first time I travelled this road, it was a brilliantly sunny day in the high 20's and I was sittin' in a car nearly tearful as I meandered through a series of tight hairpin bends wishing I was on my bike. I came back the following day on two wheels :D

Here's a MAP

The Story So Far

Once i get off the ferry, i plan on heading straight down in the way of Arnhem, visit some of the sites around there from Operation Market Garden. Then pick up the Rheinfollow it as far downs as Koln, head east to Gutersloh to see if my childhood home is still standing, from there visit the medevil town of Soest, the 3 dams that were succesfully breached during operation Chastise aint far away so the Mohne, Sorpe and eder have to be visited, Then head west towards the Rein again, pick it up travel as far south down the river before making a base for night time, hopefully make it as far south as Jockgrim, making that a base for a few days, so now making plans from there into black forest, before heading north following the mossel and heading back to the ferry, :thumb

'Kinell.

I take it that the two gentlemen in the clip know the road quite well?

I'd have been through the barriers on the 2nd or 3rd bend trying to keep up with them.......

@John Armstrong, if you are on a bike, you do not need to have a Umweltzone sticker, its just for cars/trucks.

Ive nae got enough days to do everything i want to, think im going to have to take an extented break, and book another ferry time.:thumb

I think that's Johanniskreuz you're thinking of Andy. Just south of Kaiserslautern as you say. There might be a meeting point in the Black Forest but J/Kreuz is the famous one. I remember being up there one weekend and the had to be easily over 250 bikes in the car park.

Thats the outward bound time changed, leaving a week earlier, £10 to change my booking, and thats with a cabin with a view this time, not that there will be much that im not used to seeing, the sail over will be like a busmans holiday. :pullface

Black Forest was great

. . . The B500/Schwarzwald Hochstrasse is as good as anything I've ridden anywhere for fast, smooth bends on really great surfaced roads. A lot of folk slag off Mummelsee as a stop off due to it's blatant tourism but it's a cracking road . . .

The 500 goes into Freudenstadt, one of my favourite places for a stop off in Schwarzwald. They have a cracking outdoor swimming pool at Panorama Bad (details in the above link).

You could easily head down the B500 to Titisee/Neustadt and really get the best of this road.

The Technik Museum in Speyer (28 kms from Jockgrim) is a great day out and one that most of the Hintertstadtelfest Tossers went to last September. Speyer itself is also well worth a look . . .

Following similar tips on this forum I enjoyed Valentine's weekend in this area, though it was V. cold and there was snow on some roads. Scenery was fan-bloooody-tastic though. And Lake Titisee was frozen. I can only endorse most of the recommendations above. The 500 road was superb even though I was on 4 wheels. I visited the "other" Teknik museum at Sinsheim http://www.technik-museum.de/index_content.html and enjoyed climbing in both an old Air France Concord and an adjacent Tupolev Konkordski. And the assortment of vehicles in the museum were brill. Must be great down there on 2 wheels when the sun shines. Enjoy. :thumb2

I've had a few text messages fae Dougie in Deutschland. He's no wan for staying in the same place. :D I look forward to his report. I think he's done a guid few miles.
