When I got the 2610, it came with v7 and then I later upgraded to V8. I now need to install Mapsource onto a new computer. I've got the City Navigator Setup CD and the V8 DVD.

However, it turns out to be an Upgrade dvd and it can't find a previous installation (obviously!).

In the meantime, in the course of a tidy up, I thought - "No point keeping the v7 discs, it'll only lead to confusion" and chucked them out. :o

Any idea how I can covince the dvd there is an installation there? I've tried copying across the Garmin folders off the old machine. Not surprisingly that didn't work. I suspect it checks the registry for a previous installation.

Any bright ideas? It never occurred to me I might need the old map discs!

Garmin happily sent me a full set of replacement v.7 disks FOC when I discovered that her indoors had "tidied them up"

Give garmin a call and they will be able to copy a new set or find a new full version for you. But you need to pick a good time to call though.

Just a thought, but if you wrote a Recorded Delivery letter to Garmin, I wonder whether they would post it to you any quicker - rather than waiting for ages for someone to pick up the phone. You could always send a normal unrecorded letter, but then you run the risk of it getting "lost in the post". :mmmm Don't quite know why, but letters I have to sign for always get a quicker response from me anyway.

At least with a Recorded Delivery letter, you can check on the Royal Mail website to make sure that they've had it, and for the sake of about 60p I would rather try the Recorded Delivery letter first, than wait for up to an hour on the phone. :thumb

Got through to Garmin. Only 40 minutes on hold (thank heavens for a speaker phone). V7 cds on way. Result. :thumb
