Hi,

Can anyone shed any light on using ones own laptop to do a music extravaganza .

Searching on google has just made it more confusing!!:blast

I would like to have my laptop sat on a table in a marquee producing non-stop hits already downloaded onto hard drive.

Would like it put into layman's terms..:eek

Dont have a clue where to start, ie speakers? mixer deck? cabling? etc etc

If anyone can help please post or pm me.

Thanks

Depends how far and good you want to go.. simple and cheap.. use whatever laptop you have rip them to the disk or download the files, use the headphone out to go into an amplifier (home hifi/TV surround sound) job done.

Or you can get a full DJ type set up running off an iPod or whatever... Do you need the laptop? big IPod and speakers is easiest.. assuming you just want music to blare out or are you after being a full on DJ?

Simple and cheap but good quality also if thats possible.
Could get a dj to do it but want our own songs and to go on way past midnight.

So if I could get setup for 100quid or so that would be good.

Laptop is an acer with good bits in it, also have a sony hifi stack system where could use amp but not sure on power output.

Have a an ipod touch aswell??

So ideally guessing I would need a decent amp followed by decent speakers, plug into laptop....job done..:nenau

Pretty much - your stereo may be loud enough to do the job, but it does take quite a bit of power to play clear music over the hubbub of a crowd of people enjoying themselves.

Have a look round the back of your stereo (or in the manual) and see if the stereo amp has an AUX (auxiliary) input. This is the input to use. Most stereos have an AUX input in case anyone wants to plug an old record deck in, or hook up their TV or DVD player into the stereo system.

The AUX input will probably be two phono plugs (left & right) stereo, whereas your laptop or iPod output will have a miniature jack socket for stereo headphone output. So you may need to go to Maplins, Comet etc. to get a cable to make the connection.

Once connected, make sure the volume of the laptop/iPod is set quite low to start with. If it's set too high, you may get distorted sound coming out of your stereo speakers.

When you rip your songs to MP3, check if your rip software (e.g. Windows media player) has volume levelling, and if so, set this to 'on'. CDs are recorded at different volumes, and if you shuffle the playlist, you may have to keep running up to the amplifier and changing the volume for different tracks.

HTH & have fun.

Edit: don't forget to switch the source selecter on your stereo to AUX once you're all hooked up

your not DJ-ing you making a play list and push "GO" to start, itunes will do it make the list add the songs you want to play and set it to random and loop unless your really clever and have worked a time line for this epic DJ set.

there's several bits of free software some are hot players they allow you to edit the tracks down for example

Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder... you don't want the whole lead up, chord change and all that old shit. You want it to start at "Happy Birthday" when you select it then fade out and another track replaces it...

then you'd use one of these players....:thumb2 if it old folks the music won't need to be too loud...

speakers etc. up to 100 audience a pair of 12inch full range cabinets on sticks (stand) and a either 1 or 2 18inch bass cabinets with amps and stuff will do it. the rental on that lot with set up should be around 80-100 for cash... to your local disco rental place a few 3-6 LED colour lights on stands that flash sound to light £50 and you've got a disco....

or scale it up from there.... to a full on RAVE....! with a bubble cannon... lasers....lights, fit birds cage dancing, video sets, projection globes and 30 Quake dual driver BASS cabinets....fireworks and gas jets and a line a line array for the coverage that'll be good for about 5,000-8,000 people.... plus green room, pink room and a caterer....:augie

best of luck:thumb2

or book me and I'll set up the kit for you for a fee!

This is the amp I have http://www.hifi-pictures.net/amplifiers-home/Sony TA-D607/amp.jpg

This is the blurb on it

Stated impedence............6-16 ohms
Inputs............................Phono, cd, video 1+2, DAT
Built in graphic equalizer.............yes
Treble/Bass tone controls...........bass synth level dial, no treble
Balance control............................yes
Amplified speaker outputs...........stereo
Pre amplified speaker outputs.....no
Runs 2 x 120w speakers at present.

Question is - 'can I hook up my laptop with a playlist, plug it into my amp somehow, then buy some extra bad ass speakers and woohoo dj in the making??

What about this ????? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COMPLETE-...Systems_RL&hash=item416acdb0c4#ht_8607wt_1362

Before you splash out £269, try one of these for about a quid. Available from any electricals shop.

The 3.5 mm jack goes into the headphone socket of your laptop, and the phono plugs connect to the left & right phono inputs of your amp. Rememebr to set the input selector on the stereo amp to 'phono' or 'AUX'

Plugging a laptop into a stereo means that you actually have two amplifiers. Keep the laptop output volume as low as possible, so that a nice clean, low-noise signal is going into the stereo.
