Help.. metalic knock / tap on right side

Could do with a bit of help please.. I've got a knock / tap on my right hand side, I thought it sounded like a loose tappet but then yesterday it has got louder. I've just checked the tappets and they are spot on, I've listened to the throttle body using a screwdriver and it sounds nice and quiet (unlike the left which you can feel Anyway I have recorded it and hopefully you may be able to shed some light on where it may be coming from, the tap sounds to 'singular' to be the cam chain, it's now doing my head in..

It sounds louder than the video portrays..

Have you checked the rocker shaft end float? It sounds in speed with valve gear.

I take it holding the throttle pivot does not help?

I'd do a compression test on both cylinders in case it's a burnt valve or something. It's unlikely but a simple non intrusive test if you have already checked tappets...

Might be worth looking at the chain tensioner that side too.....

I thought about the chain tensioner but thought it would be a bit more 'chain sounding' not a tap so to speak? A compression test could be on the cards

Not had a valve collet come loose or something?

Worse case is possibly little end bearings but can't see why?

Cam follower problem / push rod. Really sounds like valve gear.

That should show up in checking valve clearances.

Get the feeling it's going to be trivial or terminal...

Had exactly the same sound it was rocker end float 2mm shuts the fecker up. Hope you find the problem.

Already on the list, but it's normally the top one on the n/s not the other, but it's possible.

Well it's nice to finally know what the problem is.... now all I've got to do is to find a link on how to do it without stripping the engine in half (as I've just found out)

You file a tapered groove just smaller than the locating dowel into the mounting point of the chain guide, in the position where it gets the least force when in place. Then snap it in place onto the locating pin/dowel.

Been done plenty of times by lots of different people and none have had any problems and have done some large mileages.

Thanks again Neil, just trying to find the best way to get the old one off/out. Wire saw maybe?
