I want to put some music on my Garmin Nav5
Can anyone give me idiot proof, step by step instructions as to how to make a selection of songs from iTunes and export them please.
I think i'm ok with getting them onto the file in the NavV. It's the conversion to MP3 format and exportation from iTunes I need help with.
Cheers!

did this for my zumo 660 , Itunes will convert them to MP3 then find the directory they are stored in and copy them to your Nav 5 . A grown up will be along soon to explain the finer details

Hi

For music to work on Nav V the tracks needs to be in MP3 format. iTunes default I think is AIFF.

Follow instructions in this link to convert the tracks to MP3.

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204310
You may find it easier to create a playlist named NAV V and drag and drop the tunes you want to play on the Nav then convert them.
Once converted copy and paste them onto the SD card.

REMEMBER to create an MP3 folder on the Nav V and insert at least one MP3 into the folder. If you don't the Nav V will not recognise the tracks on the SD Card

Are you using windows or Mac ?
If using Mac I may be able to post a few screen shots to assist you in the process

I used a piece of software called 'Free M4a to MP3 Converter', simple to use and does the job.

I downloaded it from Download.com, I tried creating an MP3 folder on my memory card but the Nav 5 didn't see the folder, I ended up just putting all the tracks on the card.

On my Apple Mac, the computer sees the Garmin but does not appear to see the memory card!
On my Windows computer it does see and will open the memory card!
How do I see the card on the Mac whilst it is in the NavV? or do I need to remove the card and plug it into the Mac using an SD card adapter?

Card MUST be formatted as FAT32.

If it isn't that could be the reason you are not seeing it whilst it's in the Nav.

Use DISK UTILITY to format the card then insert the card into the Nav V and it should be visible

On my Mac, I just drag and drop from the songs or playlists - but protected songs won't play; works perfectly for MP3s however

Does your 1200WC also have factory-fitted iTunes?

:blast

Hi David

Greg is trying to drop a subtle hint that there is a separate forum for Twat Nav's and a subsection for the Nav V.

Please accept my sincere apologies for not pointing out the obvious before replying to Dave' thread and committing the cardinal sin of cross polluting the GS LC Forum with what is apparently useless information to the rest of the members. as a penance for this horrendous sin I will make a donation to charity and the next time I pass a mosque will say 10 hail Mohammed's

I've moved the thread to Computer Help as it's not even specifically a Sat Nav issue but simply a query about converting iTunes files to .mp3 files.

As we all know, rarely is anything passed without a degree of friendly piss-ripping!

;)

Greg, thanks for moving the subject to the correct forum. Being relatively new to the site, I'm not yet familiar with it's myriad of sections and sub sections and i trust that all those offended by my egregious error will forgive me. Espcially Mr. Chuffer.
It's a shame you didn't move it before he got the wind up his kilt!

I don't think that anybody was offended - but having the post in the most appropriate section helps when people are searching for the advice in the future.
