Help needed - electrical problem with 06 Hexhead

Thanks again Bendy toy. I don't have another battery to hand - but given the opinions on here and after speaking to a couple of fairly knowledgable friends, I have ordered a new one. At least, now that the ECU seems to have sorted itself out, I have stopped panicking. Many thanks again to all who replied to my posts - much appreciated!

If it was mine I'd ride it. If the battery was old or I was about to tour I'd replace the battery.
You did a good thing disconnecting the battery - hope it was for a long time - as ECU can tie them selves in knots. But it isn't common at all.
Remember your bike will have lost all its fueling trim/adaptation so it could run rough, and it will take a tank of gas for it to smooth out

The ECU was definitely in knots! Battery is old and I am indeed about to tour - so don't want to run any risks. I had it disconnected for about 20 mins but will remove it completely and probably leave overnight before fitting the replacement. I will do a TPS reset but thanks for warning me about possible rough running.

Battery is 8 yrs old. It's had a good innings. Replace it. Especially if you're going away.
Disconnecting the battery simply caused all the various compooters to reboot.
New battery and you'll be sorted.

You can do the jump lead test with any 12V battery. Most cars have one. ;)

But going away with what is most likely a dicky battery is a good way to have the wrong sort of experience.

Thanks Bendy toy - I did wonder about that, but was unsure about trying the car battery (as I said, I'm a bit clueless :(). Plus, going with all the other comments I've had and the fact that I'm a bit short of time, I've decided to just change the battery. Hopefully the new one I ordered will arrive tomorrow.

Car battery is fine to use. Just ensure the car isn't running.

Starters cause nasty electrical spikes so leave the donor vehicle switched off. Open the bonnet connect the jump leads and start the bike.
