Hi All

I am about to purchase a 1150gs but it has no luggage and wondered what would be the general consensus amongst the wise and brave of the gs world on which kit to get

the price is of a similar vein on the 3 makes that i have looked at but sizes and that i bow to your experience

the companies that i have looked at are
Touratech, Metal Mule and Hepco and Becker

if there are anymore out there please let me know

i am only looking for panniers and i have tried to find the BM ones on the web but they are hiding from me

must say when i took it out for a ride the grin factor was huge so it could be bye bye RT hello GS

looking forward to hearing your views

Type the names of the panniers your interested in into the search facility at the top of the page and all will be revealed:thumb

Hi to you :thumb2

Luggage depends on how much you want to pay, what use the luggage will get and what you want the bike to look like while it's on.

If you want to pay less than £200, won't go off road and don't want to look like a pizza delivery boy then the plastic system panniers (with the big lids) makes a good choice. You'll find the BM pizza delivery offerings badged as "Adventure" ones. IMO it is more convenient than the plastic kit, but costs more.

Tims right a quick search will reveal plenty of reading material. FWIW, most people will recommend the ones they are using. Why? Well, they're quite expensive so you tend to buy one set and stick with them, rather than chop and change allowing comparisons.

I, of course, will recommend the Metal Mules though! :D

It really depends on what you want to use them for.
2-up journeys and/or venturing off the beaten track, the ally bread bins are the way to go.Problem is cost £400 ish upwards.
On road most of the time or solo riding, there isn't much of a problem with the BWM system panniers.Cost here is £200 ish.
Why not stump up £12,become a site sponsor and put an ad in the for sale/wanted section.System panniers do appear there time to time.

Nearly forgot;welcome to the forum.:beerjug:

Another option: take off rear seat and strap on a backpack. My 40 litre Lowe Alpine fits on perfectly, is nice and streamlined and I already had. Hein Gericke do 40 litre waterproof duffel bag style carriers for about a tenner. You don't NEED to spend loads of cash to go touring.

Just a thought.

thanks for the info peeps went to metal mule today as they are down the road from me and seemed quite impressed but not that impressed to buy any after some thought and until one gets used to the bike i have decided to go for the system panniers with my givi topbox from the RT
:beerjug: thanks again for the assistance

pick the bike up saturday hopefully

ok guys a little update

i have now had the bike for about 4 months and have taken part in the tour of britian cycle race as one of the motorcycle marshals and while on the tour i met another GS owner who i jokingly said give me your seat for a day he had a corbin i bet you can guess what his answer was yep your right but he did say that if he ever sold his bike he would give me first refusal and low and behold after returning from the tour his local BM dealer offered him good money for his 1150 so he sold me the seat yipee what a difference it is even more fun now

i am now:bow for some knowledge on if there are any makers of ally panniers out there that use the same mountings as system panniers as i need to be able to still use the system ones but would like some ally ones as well unless someone can point me in the right direction:bow

looking foreward to your replies
