Hello All,
Me moto has stop dead, I think its the fuel pump as there is no whining coming from the pump when the ignition is on, Ive taking the injector pipes of and turned the motor over but theres no fuel being feed to the injectors.
So could it be the relay and if so is the horn relay the same as the fuel pump ? So I could maybe swap them to try it or are they different ? when the ignition is turn on there is a popping sound coming from inside the tank as in (pop pop) and then stops no more noise.
Well lads n ladies what ya think by the way its a 96 R1100Gs
thanks
joe

Take tank off, preferrably empty it, put 12V cables (directly from battery or 12V output minijack from starter cover) to fuel pump power-clips for few seconds and hear if it starts pumpin'. If not, then it's definately the fuel pump. If it starts, then it's cabling or relay or fuse.

All relays and fuses checked, OK?

Bin RID seems to be OK.

Margus thanks for that, Ive just looked at the wiring diagram and it seems the green/white wire is the + and the brown wire is the - to the fuel pump, is this right ? If so I will try that in the morning as the bike is not at my home (it was too far to push:( :( )..

Anybody else have any ideas, its just I need the bike for work....
Thanks again
joe

RID on means the kill switch and such are ok.
Check if you are getting spark at plug. If you have spark, it could be pump itself.
You might have no spark as well as no fuel indicating a control problem, such as the bloody hall timing/ignition switches on the crank pulley.

when the ignition is turn on there is a popping sound coming from inside the tank as in (pop pop)

That makes me think the pump might be blocked and trying to pump a vaccuum???
(I hear that noise every day when I'm priming peristaltic pumps in machines)

Maybe it has a vut-out or just can't deal with nothing being actually pumped through so it gives up?

Joe,

if you're in a hurry, then just take the tank off. Emptying tank is just for precaution due explosion - so evacuate people from 25 metre area and put helmet on and close the visor if puting 12V to fuel pump. ;) Haven't heard about tank explosion yet, but be careful though - you never know what that broken fuel pump can do (i.e. creating sparks inside the fuel tank)... So i'd empty it if possible, but sure serious DIY guy wouldn't do it ;)

OK. Now to real thing: Fuel pump has separate fuse no. 6 (counted from right-to-left on fuse line under your seat [i.e. two left ones are spare fuses]) - see the image i attached. Check it, if it's OK then still take it out and put it in few times to rip some corrosion off - fuse contacts may be corroded too.

Relays: fuel pump has separate relay "F" (see the image). You may swap the fuel pump relay with some other - see there's number's written on them, if the part number is same with some neighbour relay, just swap it, if no help, then relays are OK. At least my R1100GS 1998 has relays D, E, F, G with the same numbers, so identical and swappable with each other. But DO NOT swap them, if the relays are with different identification numbers - could cause serious damage to circuit or fire may start.

Here's the markings you can find the stuff from my 1998 R1100GS:

If it's going to be tank removal and if you're not sure which external terminals are for fuel pumps power, then you may take the fuel pump assemby off the tank (well, then it's sure tank emptying), you don't have to take them fully out of the tank acctually, just pull them out enough so you can reach the pump and put the 12V directly to fuel pump's two terminals.

Here terminals are marked with red:

Lads first of all thanks for all your help, this is why this site is the best by far...
So I removed the fuel pump put a 12volt charge to it and it was still not working, but I did notice that the gauze filter at the bottom of the pump had split along one side, I removed the spring that is in the gauze bag then changed the wires over and ran the pump in reverse and BINGO it worked pushing out the crap that was inside, I then ran the pump forward and it worked I've done a temp repair to the gauze filter to get me back on the road. But does anybody know if you can buy and replace the gauze filter or do you have to buy a complete pump?
Once again lads thanks for all you help.
joe

Jose, this diagram is of an 1150 (do you have an 1100? - can't remember) and shows the filter (I assume it's part 3) as a separate part (part no is 16141341233 - but that's for an 1150).

Mike:)

ps D'Oh! Just re-read your post - will try to get the pic for an 1100...

pps Just re-checked - 1100 part is listed as the same number & diagram.
