In preparation for the Moffat meet I’ve given my 1150 the once over in the daylight. Heartbreak!! Visible oil leak from the left hand cylinder head.

I cleaned the oil, ran the bike up quickly gave it some revs and looks to be coming from this bolt.

Oil level is just below half full so seems to be a minimal leak. Is this a trip ruined requiring workshop help or can I just nip it up? Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers boys, will give her a nip up. Honestly no idea on the cam chain upgrade! Judging by the rest of the mechanical work I assume so!

15mm I think is the replacement one.

It is worth having the tools to torque the thing up properly. I changed mine and just nipped it up as tight as I dared, which was fine for about 5000 miles, then it suddenly started weeping. Unfortunately I didn't have a 15mm spanner with me, and I was in the middle of Namibia at the time. I now have a very waterproof left boot and a Motion Pro torque adaptor...

It’s 15mm so assume it’s the upgraded one. I’ve just put a spanner on it to see if it would move and honestly I reckon it was finger tight! Do they loosen off when running?

Looks like an Updated one 15mm

Scoosh it off first with a decent scoosh of brake cleaner to keep any dirt that "might have" crept in to the alloy sealing ring and torque to spec and no More!

Fine thread so as a ROUGH guide once you need to apply any force to the spanner It about an 1/8 th of a turn maximim or 30 Degrees

and dab a dab of Tippex or paint marker on where you can see it as a witness mark and that will give you a heads up if it moves just by glancing in at it

Great minds and all that! Looks to have stopped weeping now. Let’s she how she looks after 120 miles on the motorway!

Good idea to mark all bolts, nuts that require set torques on them. Perm.Marker pens works for me 2.

Did someone use PTFE on that ?? I see small white tape like strands in the gap
Not sure tbh, I’ve had a zoom in and can’t tell if it’s the oil weep making it look that way! I didn’t fully take the bolt out. Just blew it out with some compressed air and towels!

130 miles from Hampshire to Cardiff and not a drop spilled. Looks like the “issue” is now a non issue :beerjug:
Well done and its not just old bikes either...Keep an eye and an ear out and adjust as necessary...
