Help needed please with an electrical problem

Could someone please give me some help getting the wazoo rolling again?

It's a 96 1100gs, she was idling in the workshop while I was balancing the throttle bodies, the nuetral light went off, although the RID still showed 0.

I turned her off, and then noticed the clock was dead too. Turning it back on, the fuel pump powers up, clocks light up, nuetral light doesn't light, and the starter wont swing over.

The clock wont stay alive, and she wont swing over. all fuses in the box are ok, so I'm not sure what's blown, and how the nuetral light, starter button, and clock are all related to die like this.

Can anyone offer some ideas?

Silly suggestions

Check all the fuses, what about when you pull the clutch in?, does it turn over?. Not familier with 1100's but start here anyway. Have you had the tank off? if so check all the electrical plugs under here for not having pulled out or full of crap and the've got moved and trouble starts. have a good look at the above and hope for the best, a certain inhabitant of west london will doubtless be along in a mo and rubbish the above and tell you exactly what's wrong so don't despair!.

I can only offer basic suggestions I'm afraid. If you're doing your own TBS then I'm sure you've already checked these but hey, moral support.

It sounds as if the starter safety interlock is engaged.

Check that the rear wheel spins freely when the bike 'thinks' it's in neutral; my 1100's gearbox occasionally gives false neutrals. If the bike is in gear, roll the rear wheel to & fro to mesh the gears, then work the gearlever to try and find neutral again.

Check that the killswitch hasn't been nudged off-centre, and that the sidestand is up all the way, and isn't covered in crud.

Search the forum for 'neutral switch' and 'sidestand switch'

Thanks for the advice guys. problem sorted, 2 different electrical connections went down at the same time, bizarre.
