I need to pick your brains............

Has your bike WITHOUT ABS, definitely NOT got Servo (Power Assisted) brakes.

That is, in layman's terms............normal brake feel, resistance and front brake lever travel, when pushing the bike around & ignition's off (none of this residual...........no brakes feel).

Also when riding there's no whirring and hissing from a Servo located under the Tank........

It's just that I saw something on a non GS site, that non ABS BMW bikes in late 2004/2005, were being built with Servo Power brakes and just ABS or non ABS was the option.

I sincerely hope that this is NOT TRUE and the other thread poster has got his facts mixed up.

I believe that NON ABS bikes............just have normal hydraulic brakes & EVO (Tokico) Calipers, with no electric Servo assistance whatsoever.

Please can somebody clarify on their new bike ie late 2004/2005 model year........
TIA

Wouldn't it be best to clarify it with BMW as they are the people who will make your new bike and the spec can change anytime so people who have taken delivery may have the last non-servo models.....I hope not for your sake but its only a fact.

I'm pretty sure you're OK Johnny - the BMW Motorrad 'build your own bike' website has a list of standard features...

...if Servo Brakes were standard, you can be sure they'd make a fuss about it, rather than just listing Evo Brakes...

But I'd ring and check anyway.

Mike:)

Mike ...........is that from UK website or USA site.

To reply to Andy and Mike,
I have checked with Dealer at time of ordering and they say it's non Servo, without ABS.

However somebody posted that they had spoken to BMW at Ally-Pally last weekend about R1200ST (yes I know it's a different bike) and the options for 2005 on it were either ABS or Non ABS.......BUT either choice still had Servo Power Brakes

When there was the 'hoo haa' over servo brakes recently I went onto the UK BMW site to check out their specs. The servo brakes weren't even mentioned in the 1200GS 'bumph', so BMW are hardly promoting them!
When I was asking about a new 1200 I was told that ABS and non-ABS both would come with servo brakes. However, a new 2004 1150 Adv without ABS did not have servo.
Check with BMW Johnny (and remember that salesmen can tell fibs ;) )

I have a 2004 1150 ADV and it definitely has not a servo assisted braking system. I was confused as much as you and I found that the simple test, was to apply the brake , with the ignition on, and you can hear the servo. No buzz, no servo.

Regards,

Paul

I was curious about the 1200GS brakes so I emailed BMW UK and asked them.

The choices for the 1200GS are:
1. Servo+linked+ABS.

or

2. Non-servo, non ABS, non-linked. That is just plain ordinary separate front and rear brakes.

There are no other choices.

That's exactly correct Engineer.........

Premature Panic over !!

Checked with supplying dealer - Rainbow who have both 2005 Non ABS GS1150 Adv and Non ABS GS1200's, just PDi'd and whilst on the phone, Steve the Service Manager, checked the bikes in the stockroom and confirmed that non ABS bikes are just, plain ordinary brakes, whereas the ABS bikes were 'whirring away in the background' .

How's that for service..............!!!

FWIW............BMW GB have not replied to my email on the subject this morning yet (probably having to ring a dealer to check !!!)
