Hi All

I bought a new 660 this week. After initial charge on arrival it was working fine. :D Then fool that I am, I decided to update it to the latest software and map versions via Garmin Express on my Mac. I didn't have a suitable SD card available and to keep things simple I elected to load just NW Europe. After several hours all appeared to have been completed successfully but... :blast:

Now on powering up the 660 it displays the initial garmin screen, tells me it is loading maps than tells me it is "loading loader" at which point it becomes frozen and can only be switched off by removing the battery. It is also no longer recognised as a device by my Mac although it is still charged by the USB. I have tried the master reset by switching it on while holding the bottom right corner of the screen, but this has no effect at all. (Just for amusement I tried all the other corners as well)

So far Garmin support have failed to come up with any useful suggestions :nenau and my own searches on here and via google haven't come up with an answer.

Can any wise and wonderful Garmin Jedai Knights :bow on here throw any light on possible solutions?

At the end of the day I imagine I can return it to the supplier or exchange it with Garmin but thought I would explore other possibilities first.

Thanks

My first thought would be to reinstall an earlier OS (they are available on some website or other), that has cured problems for me in the past but, if your Mac ain't seeing the 660…?

Doesn't sound too hopeful TBH, sorry. If you could see the device on your Mac then maybe something could be done but you say that's not the case.

Call Garmin again and request that you return the device to them. They're usually pretty good about this sort of thing.

Hi the sensible route would be return the garmin to retailer, prior to this from experience with the 660 : do not connect usb and device through a hub, if you have micro sd fitted inside battery compartment, remove it and repower, power down and reinstate state and check results. Have you also downloaded and installed 'garmin express' which see's your device, 'garmin agent' will also work with express. Your issues I have experienced via mac conection to the point it doesnt always recognise the device. Persivere as it does suddenly reset and configure itself, the 660 is a fickle beast and similiar occurences have been experienced by collegues. Hope this has been helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I called Garmin Support this morning and they confirmed that it needed to be replaced. The Garmin guy could not identify what had caused the problem and thought there could be numerous explanations.

The lesson from this is that, if your Zumo 660 on powering up stops at "loader loading.." ceases to be recognised as a device by your computer and won't respond to a hard reset, then it needs to go back to Garmin. Hopefully, if it happens to your 660, like mine, it will still be under warranty.
