A couple of weeks ago while out on the bike the brake warning lights came on and so did residual braking. I stopped the bike then turned it back on and all was fine. It then happened again the next time I was out on it. Then last week I went over a curb, the warning lights came on then the engine cut out. It started again after and everything was fine until 2 miles down the road at a bumpy round about turning right, lights on again and the engine cut out, it then started and got me home. When the warning light come on I think the bottom one stays on and the top one flashes. The bike is an 1150 gs adv 2003.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

To help avoid knackering your wiring system, it's general knowledge amongst seasoned 1150 riders that, you need to cut all the zip ties that some heavy handed bmw tech applied in the factory and apply carefully fitted replacements. It'll be one of the first things i'll be doing to my new bike, once i've got it home.

That's exactly what I would have thought had I not done it 75,000 miles ago when I bought the bike but this has got to be electrical right??

It sounds electrical, and as the engine is cutting out, it does point to the ignition harnes or switch (complete unit).

With the ignition on, and if needed the engine running. Flex the ignition loom as far as you can get to it. Tap the switch housing with something like the handle end of a screwdriver. You may get lucky and find the probable cause.

I take it the spring on your side stand is OK holding the side stand up. It might be worth checking in that area, particularly the side stand switch. Flexing cable and tapping switch.

Good thought about the side stand switch Ian. Will check that. Can't see any chafing anywhere though.
