Got my bike out this morning for our Suday run (2017 GS Rallye) , went about 3 miles and next thing the bike just slowed right down so pulled over and bike is ticking over but won't rev , lots of flashing warning lights on with the little engine light staying on , rode it home in limp mode and disconnected the battery to see if it rebooted but no . Any ideas please !

Rebooted? lol, it's not a laptop. You will need to take it to a dealer or connect it to a diagnostic device. That said, failed battery can cause multiple issues.

As a matter of interest does the ECU have a branded name on it ie Bosch, my 2017 registered GSA which I owned from new only had a part number on it and no manufacturers information.

It broke down last summer in Austria and it turned out that the ECU was knackered , dealership said mine was the fourth or fifth the same age with the same issue and also they have had issues with throttle bodies packing in

Prior to this it had gone into limp home a couple of times but it always cleared on restart

That is worst case scenario but you really need a gs911 or similar to diagnose

Check battery before panicking.

My 2017 R1200GS did exactly this a couple of weeks ago. Exactly the same symptoms as you describe. I also tried disconnecting the battery and changing the battery for new etc all to no avail. So got recovered to the dealer for them to diaganose. It turned out to be the electronic throttle sensor at the twistgrip and had to be replaced by new. It seems it is a reasonably common problem.

See if anyone else around you have a GS911 diagnostic tool. They will not loose a licence from the 10 if they only check for fault codes I think.

As others have said, check the battery condition first, it's probably the original still - preferably remove it & get it load tested by a battery supplier.

My initial reaction is a possible throttle potentiometer issue - with a known good battery, maybe a throttle position reset may clear it, if you are feeling lucky.

Otherwise, there is little option but to get the codes checked; dealer/GS911. Annoying I know - why we can't be trusted with diag codes being displayed through the dash remains a mystery.

Thanks for the replies , the battery is the original but is always on an optimate when not in use but I use the bike all year.

Looks like a trip to BMW for a plug in !

Bike in to BMW yesterday and as a few people have said , it was the twist grip sensor (battery was fine) so ready for collection tomorrow and just the bill to sort out

Does the bike have full BMW service history?
If so, I'd insist on some kind of goodwill gesture covering part of the bill personally.

My 2018 GSA suffered the same issue last year. Fortunately it was still under warranty.

True. They have waaay more processors than a laptop.
Nowt wrong with trying a reboot.
