Hi everyone

I need some help before i get the spanners out.

I have a 2001 1150GS with 17,500 miles on the clock, and the clutch is starting to slip!

I was driving home from a fun riding Weekend on the Welsh mountain roads and about 50 miles from London my clutch started to slip quite bad while overtaking on the M25, when i got home i noticed a small oil leak from between the engine and gearbox casings on the right hand side, any clues?
I would of hoped the clutch would have lasted a bit more than 17,500 miles, it has statred to slip in all gears high up in the rev range as well

I have had a search on the site but am unsure of what it could be

could it be the crankcase seal or input shaft? the level in the Master cylinder looks ok

If the clutch plate has had it, has anyone got the tourotech ceramic plate fitted and are the any good?

thanks in advance

Just moving your thread over to the technical section Motogp where you'll get a better response.

This is more the introduction area for newbies. :)

it is oil coming out not clutch fluid, i have checked master cylinder and level is ok

It sounds like Oil has contaminated your clutch. Recommend you Bell Steptoe.

This is his Business .... http://gsshop.co.uk/

Or you could PM him. I bet he will spot this anyway as he is the Mod for this section.... :thumb

He`s near you as well `cos I think he is one o` them Cocky Knee Blokes :ymca

Clutches can easily last 100K miles in normal use.
It does seem you have oil contaninating the plate, which needs to be replaced.Where the oil is coming from is another matter. The crankshaft seal or the gearbox input shaft seal are the candidates. How is your gearbox oil level?.Can you tell if it's engine oil or gearbox oil?.

take the starter motor off and have a look inside the clutch housing. see if you can smell the oil, you maybe able to tell where it's coming from -gearbox or engine, although the oil will smell like gear oil because of the clutch slipping and burning it.

But does it really matter where it's coming from ? it's a gearbox out job no matter where it's leaking from.

I'd stick with a standard clutch, rather than a ceramic. The clutch splines can wear out on both, at least with a standard clutch it'll be cheaper. Plus the ceramic clutch has spacers which have to be removed once it's bedded in. But thats your choice.

thanks you all for all yr help,

have got the gearbox off and its the input shaft thats has sprung the leak

many thanks
