I was draining the oil from my bevel box and gearbox.
I always check through the oil when done draining. I found this cylindrical pin in the oil. I dont know where its from and it certainly wasnt in there when I started. Please help identify it,

Hi!

Where did you find it? Engine oil? It might be one of these pins to secure the bearings on the crankshaft?
The bearings in the gearbox are all ballbearings.

Bearing no 1 in the gearbox has fairly large rollers - probably 8mm in diameter so I don't think it's from the gearbox.

This is driving me nuts. I'm checking through my hayens and cant find anything that matches that roller I found.

I havent removed the bevel drive yet, but when loosened the boot some oil poured out. could it be a roller of the pivot bearing??

That's the most likely culprit. It may have been caught in the rubber boot for a long while and be nothing to do with your current bearings. There's only one way to find out?

Just my pennies worth....The oil comming out of the swing arm has nothing to do with the bearing roller. more likely comming from the gearbox seal, and if in such a small amount nothing bto worry about, ( check your earth/Speedo drive bolt, could be gummed up) Looks like the roller could have come from the pivot bearing though. I would have thought that a bit of notchiness would be felt if this is the case. Good opportunity to check them anyway, often ignored area.

Failing that, scrap the fecker, but in a crate to UK and I'll give you a fiver for the lot.:D

I couldn't feel any notchiness in mine, and the oil was escaping through the breather hole that needs to be open on the mono but is meant to be sealed on the para. Some RTV bunged in the hole reduced the amount of oil going down the driveshaft tunnel to a very small amount ie less than a teaspoon in 3 thousand miles.

What like this ;)

Looks like it could be a roller from the pivot bearing..
Or maybe the driveshaft UJ :blast

You should not have any oil in the swing arm at all :comfort

Now I need to find the oil leak. I've heard that there is a breather that needs to be blocked off that could be the source of the oil. At this point I'm actually a bit stuck. I dont have a thin walled socket or box spanner to remove the swingarm locknuts. I do have one in the post from motorworks that hopefully will be here soon.

Filled my breather hole with RTV without removing anything other than the gaiter. Once you know where it is then all I did was get the driveshaft lined up to give maximum space to get a finger in, to fill the hole with the RTV, ooo errr.
