Help or advice in removing lock nuts on car.?.

Brother has just bought a 206 as a run about ,but the last owner didn't get the removal tool ,, So what are my choices ? Because it's me that will have to sort it out as he has no idea . I have read about using a smaller impact socket over the top of lock nut , or getting a set of threaded left threaded sockets to remove . If anyone can give me a glimmer of idea ,it would be great . Just hammer a rung nut tool onto it and remove them with a wheel iron.

if you can get away with a socket over the top then do that but if not

Get a drift...any cold chisel will do, or a sacrificial screwdriver.

Put the end in one of the locking tab holes and give it a tap with a hammer, at an appropriate angle..

It will turn the nut off if you get it right.

If there are no holes on the outside face of the locking nut, you can cut a slot into it with an angle grinder then do the above.

It's quite scary to see how easy it actually is to get most of these things off......once you've done it once, you'll never bother buying and fitting the stupid things again

The girl's way out is to take it to your local tyre fitters......they will have seen it all, done it all and as long as you have a bit of paper that associates you with the car (a ten pound note is usually sufficient) they'll have it off in no time

I hear plastic explosives are quite good at removing bits that you want removed!!!

One word of caution, if some muppet has used an air-gun and torqued them to the same as the proper nuts, you could be in for a fine old game.

Just drive the car to any car recovery yard and ask them to remove the "bastard" nuts.
They will reach into the cab of the recovery lorry and pull out a "Snap-On" bastard wheel nut removing kit.
You pick a suitable size from the kit, offer it up to the offending nut, hit it a thump with a lump hammer, and put the wrench onto it and remove the nut. Takes around 5 secs per nut.
Don't forget to tip him afterwards.

Many Thanks for ideas , don't know about the C4 plastic , but he seems happy enough to sort it out , it will be a first for him to get of his ass and do it . Time his little brother left him to it . Thanks again Geno

Plus one for the Snap-on tools all the breakdown outfits use them, and have had good results myself, clever left handed internal spiral bites into the nut, and quality materials do the job.

Had to do this yesterday on my daughters Corsa, tyre ripped and car going nowhere

On the Corsa the locking feckin' wheel nut is recessed quite deep into the stud hole in the alloy wheel and if that wasnt bad enough there's a bloody collar round it,,,,,, so

Carefully (to avoid chipping the alloy wheel) apply a narrow chisel to the collar and hammer fuck out of it until it gives up and snaps away (I used an air chisel)
Then find an impact socket just smaller than the bastard locking wheelnut and with judicious use of a 'kin big lump hammer, hammer it onto the wheel nut. (which is why you need to remove the collar) You can use an ordinary socket, but don't expect to use it again

Attach ratchet to socket and undo as normal, Good luck!
